So Wink and Melissa are superstars who have been so helpful in getting me to this point. I can't recommend HP Diamonds more highly so far with my dealings with them. They have been amazing in helping choose my stone and talking through my concerns etc. If all goes to plan I will have a nice 2.74 CBI on my finger in the near future.

So now the fun part starts where we conceive the setting.

I am thinking something with a tapered plain platinum band similar to BGD tapered tiffany and CVB Jovyn. A very soft knife edge that rounds out. I want the basket to cup the stone rather than the prongs being straight up and out. A nice gentle curve if you know what I mean. I also love a gap so happy for a donut!!

Here are the existing bands that the new ring will go with. It will sit above the blue band rather than in the middle of the two bands.

I thought I would put it out to everyone here to see if anyone has any ideas to help me pull this setting together. Maybe there are options I haven't thought of.

Maybe the tapered band or soft knife edge will look really bad with my set?? I'd love any feedback. I have full confidence in designing something amazing with Melissa from HPD but thought I'd ask here also.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Wow. Sorry, those pictures are huge! I've no idea how to resize :(sad

I love the jovyn but I also love the Dahlia. I would have a hard time choosing. Now that I think about it, I would probably go with the Dahlia for myself because the head is so unique and gorgeous. Like a little surprise when you look at it.

I can't think who it was but someone posted a ring with those 'bowed out' prongs recently - if there's a way to look through all the recent attachments (the Diamond Eye Candy pictures I see at the bottom of this page??) it might be in there!

Do you think a tapered band rather than a straight up rounded band would look best?

I don’t want cathedral!

On a Tiffany style, I would not do tapered in. I think you need to decide on the style ring first, then decide about the shank.

What ever setting design you choose, it’s going to be glorious! I can’t wait to see your finished ring

Can't wait to see what you and Melissa come up with.

Style wise it needs to be modern, not too high, not busy with the basket! Classic, effortless, chic please :)

I will get HPD to make whatever I go with and am leaning more towards their New York classic but I guess I’m just needing to work out the band style with my existing set. I know I want it thin (2mm-2.2mm) so it works with the blue band as anything wider doesn’t seem to work but do think I want it tapering to 1.8 at the head like msop and ame. Rounded band all the way or softened knife edge at the shoulder?

@diamondseeker2006 msop is the ring that made me consider tapered but not sure if it suits my set? I mostly think it does! Then I saw ame has a nice tapered set too which lead me to thinking about the bgd tapered Tiffany!

I’m having trouble picturing things!

Thanks everyone!

I’m not the one that’s going to be able to help with ideas, but I do want to say that I think this brainstorming is helpful— words that describe what you want (and maybe words that highlight what you DON’T). I’d spend some time googling those words (or Pinterest). You’ll see themes that stand out to you.

I’m not crazy about blocky straight lines across multiple bands, so I’d want my ering to have some sort of “give” to it one way or another. People with a better eye will chime in. :)

Your bands are beautiful and I look forward to seeing what you choose!

HI:

No suggestions outside that I think you need a break from planning a forever setting--where I am happy to take your diamond for a respite! :P2 Send it to me...I'll take good care of it...FOR SURE! I have an eye for good diamonds!:lol-2:

cheers--Sharon

Haha!! Thanks @canuk-gal I will put you at the top of the list for stone sitter when I need one!

@KristinTech I feel the same! This ring needs a point of difference to the squarer/uniform shape of the bands I have! I’m a non matchy person I think, hence being a gap lover

But what stumps me is I keep finding myself back at a Tiffany style head... which is so popular... maybe I’m a conformist who doesn’t like to conform :lol-2::confused::eek2::lol:

Poor Wink and Melissa!!! Hence my reaching out here!! I need to spread the indecision amongst the crowd to ease hpd’s burden!!

Hmmmm maybe Melissa knows me better than I know myself!!!

She sent this through a few days ago and I wasn’t sure but the more I think about it, the more I think this 4 prong is the point of difference I am looking for! Not double claw though, single claw!!

What do you think??

I like it :)

Reminds me of my lost Novela setting, minus the side pave. I really loved that four prong setting, sigh. It's clean, modern, and it'll be unique enough from the usual four prong settings that the general public has.
