Woo!! My first BWW thread as a real bride to be!

FI and I started talking wedding tonight over a glass of wine and Thanksgiving leftovers. It appears that we are leaning toward a tented backyard affair with a New England clambake on a friend''s property. We both are drawn to details that are modern yet not too formal so hopefully choosing wedding details won''t be too difficult. He is really into this stuff!

We both love blue and I am drawn to yellow (if the wedding is in the spring) so it seems like these might be our wedding colors. Oddly, the colors of the university where we met (UDel) are blue and gold. We don''t want our wedding to look like its UDel themed so we are going to go with a stronger hue of blue and a soft yellow.

I feel like we need to choose one or two neutral accent colors. Cream comes to mind but I would like something a bit... more. Perhaps grey? I read in Brides magazine that grey is the new brown for 2009.

I''m going to post pics that include shades of blue that inspire us.

I like the color of the BM dresses in this shot, not necessarily the BM dresses themselves.

Here is a palette of shades of blue. We are leaning towards something between the top row, middle panel and the middle row, right panel.

I think silver would look really nice.

I think gray or silver would looks beautiful with blue and yellow!

Thanks for the suggestions Pearl and OUPear! I agree that grey or silver would be a good choice. Now I am leaning towards champagne instead of yellow.

How about a blue like the glass oil candle or the BM dresses with a champagne and pewter grey?

Would it be bad to use two hues that could be a metallic color?

i think champagne, silver, and that blue would be sooooo pretty
even though that tends to be more of a winter pallet, i think it would totally work in the spring :)

I''m not a huge fan of champagne and silver together...but I think champagne and that teal blue would be really nice together!

I like champagne... But I would still vote for a light butter yellow instead. I just think it''s GORGEOUS with the blue you''ve picked out.

I think FI and I need to make a trip to the fabric store and check some of these combos out. Before we settled on the blue, yellow was a color I really could see there. I love the photos of spring time weddings I see with the BMs in a nice cheerful yellow dress. I think yellow is a very welcoming, cheery color! I just didn''t want the color palette to seem like a baby shower or something so I suppose thats why I digressed into champagnes.

Thank goodness we have a while to decide! I appreciate all the input.

I agree with the others, blue and silver would be gorgeous. I would avoid the champagne (which would clash with both of those cool colors) and opt for whites (boring yeah I know, but it is a wedding after all).

Another scheme could be blue, cream and browns e.g.

blue and brown together but FI isn''t so keen on it. Not sure why but he nixed that idea when I suggested it.

Since FI appears to have strong opinions on EVERYTHING I have a feeling that the decision making process is going to be tedious! At least he cares though. I shouldn''t be complaining.

I love the idea of a blue/light yellow/cream color theme! I had my BMs in cornflower blue with purple and white flower accents, but I think that yellow flowers (calla lilies, daisies, roses, etc.) would be gorgeous!

I know this picture doesn''t have exactly the right colors, but I love the calla lilly bouquets tied with ribbon!

ahhaah men. well you can have brown as an accent color so not dominant at all. maybe if you show him a pic he would be surprised! he is probably picturing brown suits or ugly brown ties... not necessary at all!!!! hahahah. blue, cream and hints of brown are perfect together.

I just had to post again because I found another picture....royal blue dresses with yellow daisies! I think the color combo is STUNNING!!!

ETA: Yellow roses are a symbol for "friendship," which I think is super cute for a wedding!

Wow Laura you got me back on the yellow and blue track! I really love gerbera daisies! I''ve never seen yellow callas before so I will have to stick both of those photos in the inspiration file. Thanks for posting!

Glad I could help! Let us know what you an FI decide!!!!

My first thought was silver, especially since you are both drawn to "modern", however, the other suggestions are beautiful as well! The possibilities are endless. You seem to be on the right track. Yay!

I''d go with white. I mean, you cannot go wrong with a crisp white. I''m totally digging the New England clam bake with a flowing white tent, white table linens with blue and yellow accents. It would feel very fresh, clean and nautical--which, IMO is all clam bake.

To many colors can be overwhelming to the eye.

I found this inspiration picture while looking around online and I think it would be gorgeous for a New England clambake!

I love that collage! Thanks Girlie!

I loved my tented affair!!! my neutral was pewter.
