Hi,

Ok, I admit it, when it comes to diamonds I am a total noob. But, I have been reading articles here for about a month so I think I have been able to sponge a little bit.

I''ve decided to go to with James Allen because I like one of their settings (this one in particular http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/2-2mm-0-54ctw-Common-Prong-Ring.html ) and I like the fact that they have photos since I am in Canada.

What I looked for were I or H color, 1C AGS0/GIA-EX cut, SI1 eye-clean, round brilliants. This is my short list:
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1260808.asp
(HCA 2.4)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1279552.asp
(HCA 1.6)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1274565.asp
(HCA 2.1)
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/H-SI1-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1136113.asp
(HCA 1.1)

Any thoughts on these would be appreciated!

Thanks.

Hi Avatarreb and welcome!

Lets take a look....

You would need to check that these are eyeclean by asking James Allen to inspect the stones for you.

1) Looks promising, request an Idealscope image if seriously interested.

2) Also has potential, the Idealscope image hasn't been loaded so you would need to ask for it. Also check the grade making clouds aren't negatively affecting performance, one of the gemologists can check this for you.

3) Again the IS image is needed, this one to me is ' near' h&a as the hearts image isn't as crisp as it could be. Again check the cloud inclusions if interested.

4) This diamond does not appear to be as well cut as the others, due to overall cut precision, shallow crown and possible rounding issues the stone appears to be showing some obstruction in the loupe image, I would stick with the first three in preference.

Well, without Is images it is hard to get further than you already have by selecting EX cuts and good HCA scores. I think you have chosen a sweet spot for color and clarity to max size without braeking the bank, so that is good! I am not wild about the shallow crown on the last one, but to choose amongst these four we need IS images.

Thanks guys... I''m setting up a meeting with their gemologist to some info on the eye-clean status of the diamonds.

I''ll post IS images if I can get them.

i''m getting an error when I try to download?

they look really nice

They look nice! I prefer the second because it does not have a table inclusion.

All looks good.

Actually there is a table inclusion for the second stone too, just that it does not show up in the IS image as clearly as the other 2. If the JA gemologist says all are eye-clean anyone will do for me.

Yes, I see it now. Hmmm... see what JA says. I don''t like table inclusions personally, because when you do see them they are right there, but if they are really and truly 100% eye clean even up close, then who cares.

Thanks for the feedback... I''m wondering about the cloud in the 3rd one, and whether that will at all impact performance.

You need to ask one of the gemologists to check this for you. All the images look good.

So I took the plunge and bought this one:

Based on the gemelogist''s feedback, this one was eye clean and in her words "9 out of 10"; I''ll post pics of it when it arrives.

1260808 wasn''t recomended at all due to noticeable feather. 1279552 was a good 2nd choice, but it had a small black cluster though not eye visible.

This is the intended setting: http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/2-2mm-0-54ctw-Common-Prong-Ring.html

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Congratulations!!

Good luck. :)

It will look great. A few PSers have that setting and it is really lovely and good value ofr the price.

Many congratulations to you both!!!!!!
