Please help , I don't know what to do.

I have a 20 k rough diamond that I found in my grandpas old stones... It's grey. What do I do? I want to sell... Just don't know how... I have tried to scratch it with sand paper, also held it to a flame...

If it is a diamond (what makes you say it is a diamond and what makes you place a value of 20k on it?) and you don't have a kimberely process certificate then I'm not sure you can do anything with it.
 
20 karats probably more than 20k well it may be a record breaker, I am not sure what to do as it's a heirloom from before these regulations came into place
 
I just know it is. I've done a lot of research and the blueish huegh" stands out along with the precipitation that doesn't stay, also tried to sand it

It's not... My quarts broke on it
 
It looks like a small clear grey asteroid with one flat side not a coleadol break all smooth
 
From what country was it mined?

Is it magnetic?
 
We'll grandpa was a South African , so I assume somewhere in Africa. He would travel often. I don't think it's magnetic no. Will check though.

It is possible he has a certificate somewhere in his papers...
 
First, you need to verify it is a diamond. Is there a large university near you? Call the geology department and see if a professor wI'll look at it for you and identify it. Assuming they say diamond, then you need it examin ed to determine if any part is gem vs. Industrial quality. My advice would be to reach out to David Atlas, who is an appraiser. See if he can appraise the rough or can recommend some who can. There will be a fee. From there, you may or may not need to establish providence.

I'm sure he picked it up somewhere , he liked to pick up stones

Your stone looks to have no angles (round, curved).
 
It doesn't look like a diamond to me. Buy a diamond tester on ebay or bring to a jeweler and ask them to test it.

Others have already told you what to do.

Your first step must be to have an authority in this field confirm that you do in fact have a diamond. It doesn’t matter whether you’re sure or not - you’ll have to prove it to anyone you want to sell to, and that person is NOT going to just take your word for it.

i cant that's why i'm here. don't want to seem defiant, but the regulations in this country don't enable me to do such things.

You’re not allowed to take a small pebble to a geologist or a jeweler? I’m not doubting it’s make with that statement, I’m just questioning what regulations there are that stop you from walking around with a pebble in your pocket to see what it is made of.
 
What country are you in? Did I miss it? That would be helpful.
