Hi PSers:

We recently have a report indicating pinpoint, does it matter? Is feather a much serious flaw than pinpoint and needle?

Could someone explain to me more and how to determine please?

Thanks very much!

Pinpoint is just that; an incredibly small inclusion that - even with a magnifier - is just a tiny speck, like a pinpoint.

Isolated pinpoints are among the least worrying inclusions. A close group of pinpoints is sometimes classified as a cloud.
In many cases, pinpoints are only mentioned for the sake of completeness.

If any inclusion is VS clarity or better, it''s unlikely to pose a risk to the stone''s structure and is unlikely to be visible even with a detailed close inspection.

Inclusions only need more careful consideration once you get into the SI grades. SI1 are usually fine, but some SI2 stones have slightly worrying inclusions; large feathers or twinning wisps.

The inclusion type listed first on the certificate is the most significant and will have largely determined the grading. SI2 clarity with feather listed first should be treated with caution. If feather is listed at the end of the list of several inclusion types, it''s probably not large enough to be a concern.

Hi fifi

Pinpoint and needles are normally nothing to worry about. Feathers are usually not an issue and only rarely in SI or I/ pique grades.
