Hello

Could you please help me buy a diamond?

My budget is 15k for the loose diamond alone. This diamond seems to have good specs. Any recommendations?

What is more important to you? The ct weight or the cut?
This one is an ACA WF Round around your price point with ideal cut specs and better clarity, in spite of being graded VS2.

I would prefer to have this A Cut Above diamond from Whiteflash. The others aren’t ACAs.
 
Thank you for your input. Cut is more important than ct, weight, but I was hoping not to go lower than H in color.

I have a "True Hearts" diamond and it is beautiful. :kiss2: But I think the crystal on this table would bother me.

Thank you for the info.. I have been looking at this Diamond all week but cant make up my mind.. what size is your diamond if you dont mind me asking? I have tried on different sizes from 1ct to 2c and a 2ct looks stunning but my hands are big.. I am 7.5 ring size.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply to this post. I have been stalking that diamond,l and I am wondering if I should save up a bit more and get a bigger diamond since I tried on a 2ct and I really loved the size on my hand. I do know that cut is # 1 on my list though
 
something to keep in mind the jewelry store folks don't mention is DIAMETER of the stone.

If you are, for example, considering the three mentioned above stones, not only do you want to think about the carat wt BUT also the diameter of the stone.

Not all (for example) 2 carat stones have the same diameter; in fact there are stones that weigh in at 1.97, for example, that are the same (or very nearly the same) as a 2.02 stone and then there is a price 'bump' at 2.0. Something to keep in mind.

Diameter = Spread. Carat weight is just one factor to consider, which is why I asked which was more important to you. CUT determines diameter and SPREAD of a diamond. Dimensions and angles matter. Just a little more explanation to help you out.

Overall I agree that well cut / super ideal diamonds will exhibit max light return and consequently appear more white than a poorly cut stone.

But color is also very nuanced. When flirting with the idea of a potential borderline decision it’s always a good idea to ask the vendor for a comparison video or how it compares to other stones of similar characteristics. Lastly, maybe knowing their return policy so you can ship for in-person evaluation & return if not satisfied.

Color grades are actually assigned with the diamond face down & pavilion facing up to prevent grading error based on cut quality. Some proof that cut quality affects what we see in a normal mounted position.

Body size matters. Larger stones have larger bodies than can show more color. Light bulb temperature of your environment can affect the color of a stone. The color of your shirt, the wall or the sky can affect what you see. A white metal setting may help compliment J and above colors, where a yellow or rose setting will have a different affect. The height the diamond is set in the ring setting can come into play as lower set diamonds show less body. Shape of the diamond matters — rounds hide color well and fancies show it well.

A huge driver can be the color sensitivity of both the wearer and the person that buys the stone, if they are not the same. Women generally tend to see small color variation more easily than men but that is not always the case.

Many people struggle to see color difference between 1-2 color grades unless placed next to each other. So if all your friends have D-E-F colors and you compare an I or J next to them it may be obvious.

Often overlooked is the value culture can place on color selection. Asian culture particularly view less color as a sign of purity and despite what the naked eye can see a lower color will never be sufficient.

While very exaggerated, this is one of my favorite videos Garry produced that shows how a well cut and (very) poorly cut stone can differ in “size”.
