Hi all,

Currently looking to purchase a diamond online and I will have a ring made up locally. I'm under time pressure and overwhelmed by information/choices at the moment. I would really appreciate if anyone could provide some feedback on the following diamonds:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.70-carat-e-color-si2-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-31437
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.71-carat-f-color-si2-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-240015
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.70-carat-f-color-si2-clarity-very-good-cut-sku-171194

I am leaning towards the second one at the moment.

Many thanks,
Romero

Hi Romero and welcome!

I believe we can do better than any of these, they aren't well proportioned especially for a ring stone, I doubt whether you would be happy they are eye clean with some of them too. The third stone is the best out of the three but I still would suggest passing on it, if you give us an idea of your budget we would be happy to find some alternatives for you if you give us an idea of price and your other specs? I would also suggest lowering the colour grade a little to broaden your options, you could go to G H even I colour if well cut and still have a very white diamond if the cut is excellent.

Let us know how we can help you further! :wavey:

Hi Lorelei,

Thank you for replying. My budget is not super strict but I was thinking around USD$2000 - $2400 for the diamond. I'm not sure what other specs I should be looking for. My plan is to have it set locally in a simple Tiffany style ring as I do not particularly like the rings I have seen on BN and JA.

I would certainly appreciate it if you could suggest some alternatives which represent better quality/value in my price range!

Also, I have been putting the dimensions of each stone into the PriceScope 'HCA' tool to get an idea of whether they are suitable. The scores seemed to be good for all the diamonds I listed in my first post. Is there a better online tool that I can use?

Thanks,
Romero

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm investigating all the diamonds which have been recommened.

if you like high color, this is worth pursuing: http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-4167368-0.71-carat-Round-diamond-F-color-SI1-clarity.aspx

Ask for an ASET, if it is eye-clean, and if any details of polish are visible.

Thanks Julie, I have requested the above from b2cjewel and they assure me the diamond is 'eye clean'. They have provided ASET and IdealScope images (attached) but I do not know how to interpret them. Could you have a look at tell me what you think?

Thank you,
Romero

the ASET has some green at the girdle, the 3rd picture isn't showing any darkness at the girdle, though, so it could be ok.

Ask them if there is visible loss of brightness due to brillianteering of the girdle.

Your budget is kind of low for DEF color. If you want colorless, you're looking at compromises like SI2, cut quality, or carat weight. Or if you like fluorescence, fluorescent stones are cheaper.
