Please Help a novice

I recently made an enquirey about a ring and the dealer said it was currently out on approval. I am unsure what this means. Am I right in thinking it means it has been sold on a sale or return policy or some thing else? Sorry if this is a really stupid question! Thanks.

Hi - 'approval' is when a dealer sends goods out for someone to look at...or give their approval...before deciding whether or not to purchase.
