Please give opinions on my setting

Hello Fellow Pricescopers,

I received my upgraded wedding ring approx. 6 weeks ago. I requested that the diamond be set up as high as possible...I wanted the culet visible. Now I feel as though it's placement would be better lower. However, I dont want the diamond to get "lost" in the setting (which is why I had it set higher to begin with) What are your opinions? Should I have the diamond set lower? Does the diamond look good with this setting? Sorry for the bad photos...took them while my kids were swimming at the pool :twirl: I appreciate any opinions.

I'm no expert on settings, but the profile shot of the ring makes me nervous. Seems a little too high for safety's sake. The ring appears to be designed for the stone to sit much lower, kind of exactly the opposite of what you originally wanted.

I forgot to add that I really like the ring. The design is gorgeous. I would love it to see it with the center stone was set as low with as possible. But, that's a personal preference. I'm an as low as you can go kinda gal.

+1

It looks to me like a (beautiful!) setting designed for a low set stone. If it were me, I'd lower it at least 1mm. Your ring and hands are both so pretty!

Thanks for your suggestions. When I ordered the ring, I actually requested that they lengthen the prongs by one millimeter. I didn't know exactly what the diamond would look like when set and wanted my options. Perhaps I should have them shortened to the original design... I initially was going to have the diamond set in a solitaire but cancelled the order because I felt it made the diamond look smaller on my fingers...DSS before even set! Do you think lowering the diamond would make it look smaller??? (it is a 1.40) Would appreciate more opinions.

The height of the stone to me is perfect. What I don't think works, is that the arms of the ring need to be taller overall, more cathedral like so that the higher stone is not SO much higher than the band. Right now that head/center stone looks plunked into something stock, not something designed around a stone, if that makes sense.

I think it looks good, but lowering it couldn't hurt, especially if it's bothering you. Beautiful ring!

Ame- What you are saying makes sense. I agree that the head appears "misplaced"...maybe because I had it raised??? The ring was custom made. The jeweler gave the manufacturer my diamond dimensions. This setting was available for a 1.5 and 2.0 carat stone. My diamond is 1.40 and I was told that it's measurements are so close to a 1.5 that it would be good in the setting. I did consider a cathedral set channel diamond shank, but it didn't appeal to me as much.

What bothers me somewhat is that the prongs go up and in toward the diamond not a "V" away with the diamonds inset (hope that makes sense). I thought the prongs would have been brought in closer together in my ring so that the diamond would set in more of a v-shaped head. I asked the diamond setter about it and he said that he sees it often and will look just fine. I wonder if the setting is designed with little or no variance between the two sizes??? I feel what bothers me about the prongs can be somewhat fixed if I set the diamond down more??? I just would prefer that the diamond not appear smaller.

ame nailed the problem right on the head!

I don't think I can change the height of the arms...too late for that. I suppose if I lower the height of the stone that it could solve one of the problems mentioned...the center stone being SO much higher than the band. I would just have to have the center set lower than I initially wanted (which I'm sure is the intent of the design). The center should still be nicely raised off the finger as the band is quite thick and high to begin with??? I appreciate you helping me work through this!

Beautiful setting and stone. I too think the stone could be lowered a little.

I dropped off my ring at the jeweler this morning. You guys were correct...the design of the setting is for a lower set diamond. That must be why it just didn't look "right" to me. He set it high because it was my request, but would normally set a stone much lower in a setting like that. Oh well, live and learn! Hope I still like the ring once it is set lower :twirl: Thanks for the help!

I don't agree. In THAT setting, with THAT diamond, I would do lower. To me, it doesn't look safe- AT all.

I picked up my ring today after having the diamond set lower...It looks WAY BETTER!!! The jeweler lowered it to half of what it was and did it at no charge. I was afraid that the diamond would look smaller, but it doesn't. The diamond has a nice, safe height and the prongs/setting look so much better:-)

Re: Please give opinions on my setting...*Update*

I am following up with a request to update photos of my setting with the diamond set lower. I personally think it looks a lot better. I'm pretty rough on my jewelry (hence, no dainty setting for me  ) so I do now appreciate the safety benefit.

I really like your ring, and I think it looks much better (and safer!) with the stone set lower.

Blingfully beautiful and better! :sun:

Much safer looking! That's a beautiful ring. I really like your channel set stones. They look huge! Nice setting and so glad you lowered the centre diamond.

Wow! I think it's fabulous! :appl:

It turned out beautiful reset lower. I like it too that way. Beautiful setting.

^Thanks for the nice comments :)
