First off, Hi. I''ve been lurking for a while and wanted to say that I found this forum a awesome resource and that it has been incredibly educational.

I''m looking for 1.6-1.8 F VS2/SI1''s and I came across this one:
http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00929627&filter_id=0#grading_report

Its a really great price considering the size, color and clarity. However it seems that the cut is close to 60/60. I plugged it into the HCA and it doesn''t like it (2.5 i think?). however I tend to trust the GIA. What is your opinion on this one?

thanks,
-Jon

I''m not an expert... so I''m not going to comment on the cut. But it has a strong flourescence... I assume that''s something your okay with then?

Well first of all, I would want to make sure that the strong fluor is not going to make the stone oily or miky. Second of all, while I love fluor, I''m not personally sure I would want strong fluor in an E colored stone, but that''s just me. I would have to see it in person or have a trusted independent appraiser take a look.

Third, when I put the cut info from the GIA report into the HCA, I got this:

Light Return Good
Fire Fair
Scintillation Fair
Spread or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 5.3 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

It''s late, I might have typed something wrong, but if that is correct, I would definitely look elsewhere. GIA cut grading is much more lenient than that of AGS (meaning that the top cut grade for GIA encompasses more than just AGS ideals).
