Not sure if this is totally against the rules but I wanted to re-post something I put on the LIW board earlier today to generate additional responses.

The short of it is I am trying to determine which is the favored Tiffany 6-prong classic solitaire replica. I have picked out a selection from a wide range of online jewelery vendors and compiled them onto one file. There are 7 settings- 3 in the first row, 3 in the second, and then the whole bottom row is one setting.

Thanks for your input! Thanks to the ladies on the LIW board who have already responded.

I like the last one from the 2nd row. It''s set nice and low, has a classy look, and isn''t as knife-edge looking as the others (I''m not a big fan of knife-edge bands).

I like the one in the middle.

The one in the middle on the bottom row. I like the setting. It seems to be a little more rounded than the classic shape.

Love the profile of second row, right. And the one on the bottom row. Love that profile, as well.

Ditto.

I like the last one (far right) in the middle row.

Middle right! who sells that one?

My favorite replica is the one on the bottom row. Love how the diamond is nestled into the head, nice and low and tight, and the prongs are not big, bulky, stock-looking! My other favorite is the middle row right like everyone else, but I think you have to go to Tiffany's to get it. Unless some replica-jewelry maker is also replicating Tiffany's blue-tinted photography technique, which would be a nice and profitable trick

ETA: I think it is hard to fully compare with out top and side view pics of each setting. For example I am ruling out top row middle because I can't see the profile so I am assuming it is not as good. On others, I can see the profile but not tell how the knife edge/prong tips look from the top. A good and useful spread nonetheless.

Last one in middle row IS the actual tiffany setting isn''t it? Either way, thats my fave :)

It sure is, I guess Tiffany is more than just a name now.

2nd row, far right definitely my fave.
2nd choice...3rd row, far right.

I love #6.

From top left to right:

First place: #6
Second place: #3

second row, last pic

2nd row - farthest one the right.

middle row, far right gets my vote!

You got me! I was waiting for someone to point that out. I didn''t think that I would get away with that "trick" long on this forum. I knew I wasn''t being entirely truthful by billing them all as replicas but I wanted to see just how many people could pick it out of the bunch. My experiment sorta proved that you really don''t need to spend the big bucks at Tiffany if you want a simple solitaire and aren''t going for one of their really unique settings like the Legacy. I do love Tiffany and their jewelery but I gather that my FF feels that the best use of his money is probably not on something from that store- at least for the e-ring. But for the WB all bets are off!!

The vendors shown in the image above are:
Blue Nile, Superbcert, Dimend Scaani
Whiteflash, Adiamor, Tiffany
Niceice

I like Niceice and Dimend Scaani the best out of the bunch. I think that they really paid attention to some important details while building their own model.

SanDiegoLady
- I WISH I could get a Mark Morell for the price of that Niceice setting! His work is what I envision re-setting at the 5 year anniversary! I LOVE LOVE LOVE his work but for the sake of maximizing the budget on the stone it just isn''t in the cards right now.

Thanks for posting!

LOL! Well, on the one hand, I (and most others) like the Tiffany setting best, so I guess that tells you something about their workmanship. But if you don''t count that one because you''re buying a replica, I prefer the Nice Ice one (bottom). Many people also love the SuperbCert, but I couldn''t tell from the picture what the profile looks like.

I agree that their workmanship is really wonderful. I couldn''t find a profile shot of SuperbCert! I WOULD like to see it because I have read many good things about their work. Either way I guess this is out of my hands now and in FF''s.

Bottom row.

I really think part of the reason why a lot of people chose the real Tiffany ring is just because the *photo* is so much nicer than the other photos. In real life the NiceIce replica is really close (from pics I''ve seen on here) and if you had the two side by side in a "normal" photo, I bet you wouldn''t get the same overwhelming preference for the real Tiffany.

I honestly think the photo of the real Tiffany ring is airbrushed (just like models get airbrushed to make them look better)- there''s just some ethereal feel to that photo that makes it seem not quite real to me. I''m not saying that''s wrong of Tiffany to do, rather that they are smart for spending so much money on their ads in order to sway people into buying their products! It also shows how much we are all suckers for nice ads!

Anyway, back to the original topic, Clairitek- I agree with you that the NiceIce and the Diamend Scaani are the truest replicas of the Tiffany Original.

Aye, I didn''t respond to either thread (this one or the one in LIW) because I know the Tiffany photography style and didn''t want that to influence my choice. By the way, I''m pretty sure it''s Dimend Scaasi, not Scaani--not that it matters really, since your guy is off to do the rest on his own now, but I just thought I''d mention it.

I can''t wait to see what he chooses! I am sure it will be absolutely lovely--I love love LOVE solitaires!

The real one is by far my favorite. I could pick that one out anywhere even without the better photography honestly. There is just something about it. Otherwise, I like the bottom row. I think that is the nicest replica. The top right isn't bad either, but I prefer the bottom one.

And the one from Whiteflash isn't their best tiffany replica...I've seen better from them. I'll have to dig around for it...

ETA: Here is a nicer replica from WF IMO. And there is a way to make it even nicer, a few people have done it...I am sure WF could send you pictures if you talk to someone knowledgeable there.

I was going to post this one, simply because this is my absolute favourite Tffany replica ever. A friend of mine has a 2 ct. F VVS2 set in it, and for about $3k more he was going to get the same basic specs but in a 1.5 ct. from Tiffany. His fiancee ended up with a .5 ct. more, and amazingly found a diamond that scores a quad excellent on the HCA.
