I have a pair of stud earrings coming in about a week and I am nervous about the backs. The studs are 1.49 ctw in 6 prong martini settings with jumbo friction backs. My earring holes have stretched (thank you gawdy 80s earrings!). Michelle at wf recommended jumbo backs. I think this will be great for making the studs sit correctly and not droop. But I am scared of losing them! I decided to wear cz studs today while shopping. Lost one! I guess it was while trying on a shirt. Anyway now I am thinking I should have gone with screw backs or la pousette. I know the cz backs were probably not well made but it definitely made me nervous! Any advice?

I will have insurance but I still don't like thinking about loss!

I've had several pairs of WF studs ( )and always have had their standard backs. I do have a pair of jumbos, but I found that the regular size works fine for me. I suppose it could be dangeous trying on clothes with any kind of earrings on, but I have never had a problem with my studs. However, I only insure two things, my e-ring and my studs, because those are the items I wear the most and have the greatest chance of losing or damaging. So I guess I worry less because of that. But I have been told that screw back posts wear down after awhile, not to mention they are a pain in the neck to take on and off.

I have WF screw backs. They are a tad bit thick and they were terribly uncomfortable when I first started wearing my studs. Now I have gotten used to them. I never worry about losing my studs but If I ever upgrade I'd probably go with La pousette backs.

I have la pousette earring backs for my 3 ctw studs (not WF though). I am very curious about jumbo backs to help with droop, but the safety of the pousette's keeps me from trying jumbo backs. I can't tell you how many times I have been in a dressing room at the mall and my earring is almost falling out from trying on clothes. The pousette has always kept my earrings from falling completely off, so they do their job!!!! They are very easy to take on and off in my opinion. I don't have experience with screwbacks but I have read about a number of PSers not being happy with them.

I had screw backs ( not WF) and they were always coming unscrewed. I much prefer the regular backs or the pousette.

I had the same issue as Aprilbaby - the screwbacks were always coming unscrewed, I felt I could never get them tight enough - I've worn regular backs for years and have never had a problem with them coming off.

Back in my pre PS days, with my my first pair of studs the jeweler talked me into La Pousette backs. As a result, have always had them (24 or so years now? egads I'm old!) & now that I've upgraded to a pair of WF studs, have never ever had a problem with loosing an earring etc. I'd get them, they are easy to take on/off, most importantly--your earrings are SAFE.

Thanks to everyone for the replies! I think I will just go with the jumbo backs until I see a need for something else. I really just don't want to lose an earring and turn something I love into an anxiety, lol!

I had a pair of WF jumbo backs but they were just too big for my lobes. I ended up ordering a medium size set of 14k backs from ebay. They are about 6 mm in width and they work well for my studs which are only about 1.3 ctw.

I don't like screw backs and haven't ever had bad luck with friction backs. Something I've been doing after I put my studs in is kind of flick the back of my posts behind my ear to make sure they are secure.

I am not sure if you have special posts for your la pousette backs, but to solve the droop problem, you could use these plastic discs before you put on the back. The only bad part is that you have to buy such a crazy quantity!

Thanks DS. I actually have the discs and I used them until my earring reset last year. As long as the pousette backs are tight against my ear, I don't have drooping now. The discs do really work so I also recommend them for anyone who has a drooping issue. I believe I bought these from ebay, which is a set of 10 and cheaper for those that want to give them a shot. They also have larger discs too.

For anyone interested, I have found that the basket makes all the difference in the world for drooping. I had a 3 prong martini basket and they were horrible with drooping. The diamonds were set way too high and there was no base against my ear. I had brilliantly engaged reset them in a very low-set 4 prong basket with a small base against my ear. I love the new baskets and I only have drooping if the backs come loose.

Before reset (you can see the plastic disc I used):

I should mention that BE re-used my old earring posts and pousette backs when I did the reset.

I had the la pousette and they were easy to get on and off and never lost an earring.

I picked up the fantastic studs today! I think the jumbo friction backs will work fine! They aren't drooping at all and are very comfortable and feel really secure. I purchased insurance today as well but hopefully that will never be needed. The girls at whiteflash are awesome ladies. So so so happy with this purchase. Will post on smtb later this week.

Thanks for all your suggestions!
