Hello Everyone:

I hope that you will be able to help me. My GF and I have been looking for engagement rings and I know from our trips to the stores in the area that she is looking for a 1.5 c round diamonds that are as brilliant as what she saw at a Birks store.

I found this one and I am looking for your advise:

Cut = AGS ideal 0
Depth = 62.60&
Table = 56.4%
Girdle = Thin to medium, faceted
Crown angle = 35.8
Crown size = 15.6%
Pavilion = 43.2%
Pavilion angle = 40.9
clarity = VS2
Fluorescence = none
I don''t know the specs of the ones that she saw, but I do now that Birks uses strict criteria for their cuts to ensure they are brilliant.

Could anyone be able to help me? I want to know if this diamond will perform well in terms of brilliance, and wether you see any red flags. The price is in the $11000 range.

Thank you very much!

Hi MurrayA and welcome!

Unfortunately I do see some flags. The diamond is rather deep physically and as such this diamond could look small for the weight. Also the crown and pavilion angles are hovering around what we call 'steep deep,' this means light leakage is a possibility even with the AGS0 cut grade. It is important to know the lower girdle facet percentage for this diamond as this could make a difference whether this diamond shows light leakage or not, so if you could post that info and the diameter of the stone in MM, that would be helpful. However even if leakage wasn't much of an issue, the stone is still physically deep. Have you seen it in person? If it is online, an Idealscope image would be the next step, some vendors can supply these on request.

If you don't have the above mentioned info, if you could post the report number and the exact carat weight as written on the report, we can look it up online.

Ditto. Especially on the idealscope image, report number and carat weight.

The Girdle facet is 1.9 to 4.3%.

"Also the crown and pavilion angles are hovering around what we call ''steep deep,''"

I have a question then: what angles should I stay within?

Thanks

Will you be seeing these diamonds in person that you are considering? Also, what is the ct. weight and the color?

It is an AGS0 diamond so honestly, I doubt it is a dog even if the numbers are borderline.

Carat weight is 1.502, h color. I requested the idealscope image, and will be posting it soon. Thanks, Ivan

The following are guidelines not rules but just to give you an idea.

Crown angles - 34 - 35 degrees
pavilion angles - 40.6 - 41 degrees.

The above are no guarantee of a well cut stone but can help narrow the field.
