Hey all,

I am in the market for a 2ct + stone in the 20k range. I have done a lot of reading, but this is the first stone I have ever purchased. Some validation from those with more experience would be appreciated. I was looking for a G-I VS1/VS2 stone I think.

I looked for months and after failure to pull the trigger caused me to miss out on a few stones that I liked that were a bit larger and H in color, I ended up feeling like I needed to order something and went with the following for a little under 17k. There was just nothing else that looked like as good of a deal. I also did not find the forum here until a few days ago.

Table: 57
Depth: 61.7
Pavilon: 40.8
Crown: 35
HCA: 1.6
It falls within the specs that are commonly specified and the HCA score did not disqualify it. Does this look like a stone I should be happy with given what I paid?

I was then perusing loupe troop which i just discovered as well and saw this stone for 23k. https://loupetroop.com/listings/loo...-hca-1-dot-6-in-vatche-platinum-setting;16386

Very similar specs, but E in color. It is a little more than I was originally planning on spending, but looks like a great stone otherwise. Is this something I should consider? I know resale value is not something to get hung up on as this is not an investment, but seems like the 2nd stone would not depreciate much as it is already on the 2nd hand market. Should I consider returning the first stone?

Sorry, for all the questions. I am still a little out of my depth and this is the first major purchase I have made. All thoughts appreciated.

For me personally, I would stick with the one you have. The difference in price is significant and I am very happy with my I color stone.

Otherwise - the only difference I picked up was the lower girdle facet length (75% vs 80%). My eye prefers 75%, so another reason to stick with the stone you puchased if you agree. Jon from GOG has a nice video that describes how this impacts optics.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll look into the facet length. I had not payed much attention to that before. Do you think I did okay with the stone I have? It seems like it's pretty slim picking on the market right now. Are the images from the 2nd stone clear enough to see it does not have issues? The shadows make it sort of hard for me to tell.

Any other thoughts? Thanks so much for the help.

I am seeing some well cut 2.0c E VS2 no/faint fluo stones for 23k. Considering it is a pre-loved, I don't see the 24k price tag attractive at all. The stone was graded (and probably purchased) back in 2011 when the market was high. The seller spent 39k!! for it.. too bad for her..
I don't love the cut quality either.

I do think you did well, especially for the money. Your stone isn't a branded super ideal but the numbers look good. If you want to be absolutely sure and have no regrets, you can buy a similar spec WF ACA (or BGD or GOG or HPD) and compare the two side by side and see if your eye sees a difference. I think a branded super ideal will be about $5-6K more. Where do you live? There may be a dealer located near you so you can view in their showroom vs buying and return shipping.

Just for ref, I paid what you did and ended up with a 1.84 VS2 I color ACA

Tyty333, I paid a around 16800 for the stone. I sort of shyed away from SL1, but maybe will give it a look.

Tophat, thanks for the suggestion. I will take a look.
