Playing with daimdb to help gauge halo vs non halo

Hello PS'ers,
Ive decided I am more than likely to save a bit of money but buying a smaller emerald cut and haloing it. My current princess has a halo, so unless I buy a 3plus carat emerald the coverage will upset me!

I was playing around with diamdb and compared a 2.32 carat emerald cut on its own (8.64 x 6.45 x 4.25) to a larger emerald factoring in if say I used 1 pointers in the halo (1.3mm added to each side) which gives me 11.24 x 9.05 for the haloed dimensions. Would 1 pointers be good? Or should I go 1.5 or .5 Im not sure who to work out the equation of making the centre stone stand its own, but maintaining great finger coverage!

Soooo, I hope this link works as Id love some opinions. Its seems to be a great way to really boost this 2.32 carat emerald. My finger is a size is about 4 3/4 so lets say size 5.

Id love a website which would allow you to halo, perhaps diamdb are working on this.

Thanks!

Sorry - silly me didn't realise I couldn't mention this website - ill try to take a pic

I'm not sure what pointers to use, but just wanted to say I love halos on emeralds. The contrast from the little rounds really
makes the emerald stand out. I think haloing it is a great idea!

Thanks ladies! Unfortunately ASET imaging is not offered widely here in Australia so hoping for some further advise re ensuring my emerald cut is going to be a great stone. Any pointers or specs I must look for / avoid?

Anyone?

I love this website too and used it as well to compare diamond sizes! I just had my 3 carat emerald set with 2 trapezoids. I agonized over haloing it....I really love the look. Here is a perfect emerald halo in my opinion....it is about 2.5 center. I still look at it and double guess my decision to not halo my diamond! Good luck.

You could always buy an ASET scope. Step cuts are difficult to assess. You really need to see them in person and see how their on off pattern is and whether it appeals to you. I've seen some ASETs with a lot of red but then they have no real contrast. So while an ASET is nice I'd ultimately just go with what appeals to your eye.

I had my jeweller do a CAD on this emerald using 1 pointers. I hope the pic loads. I'll probably post a new topic re this CAD too.

Would love opinions!

If you want coverage, halo is always the way to go, I did my most recent ec-that is just over 8 x 5 first as a three stone then as a partial halo and I love the difference. If I could have an enormous ec then maybe I wouldn't halo but If you want coverage, halo is the way to go!

and note- I am a 4.25 ring finger

Wonderful transformation! Thank you for sharing!!

You are very welcome...
I think it is fun to see how this setting showcases my Gog EC (and in a way that I totally love).
I am looking forward to following your next step in this journey!

and btw I loved that diamb site, but you know what was even more effective was to make paper versions!

Hi jimmieanne
I love paper rings too!!! Have you had yours reset to match the paper one?

Here is my "paper ring" Im toying with haloing the centre and adding tapered baguettes on each side - thoughts?

hi- is the scale the same as the one in the CAD? This looks so different, proportion wise and truthfully, getting it right seems to be all about the proportions when we are talking about a finished product. are you using a mm ruler to make your paper version? I love the paper version of the halo, but again, I would add a tilt personally.

also note-both mine and asscher girls have a tilted halo for reference-

I am not an expert, and I know it's not the popular choice these days, but I prefer a chunkier halo. So I would probably go with 1.5 pointers. I also agree that emeralds are my favorite cut in a halo. I hope to have one one of these days!

Hi art! I did use a mm ruler and made it as precise as possible. The shape is vey straight so the actual ring will be a bit more fluid. What angle of tilt should I use? I'm waiting on new cads!!

Hi! I am not sure about the angle-at least 30 degrees, I think? But I am certainly not an expert. I am looking forward to your new CAD's-how exciting!!
