Has the compostion and or quality of PLAT changed over the last 35 years?

My sister's has a PLAT engagement ring for 2 years that has practically fallen apart. The shank has completely bent out of shape and is scratched and dented. It is also separating where the basket and the shank meet.

My mother has a similar setting that she has worn everyday for the
past 37 years. The ring is in perfect condition.

Any thoughts?

Variables
1. the wearer
2. the jeweller skill
3. the weight of the rings
4. the composition of the small % 9usually 5%) of hardness improving metals
5. cast or hand fabricated

etc etc
you need an expert face to face jeweler opinion. Go back to where she bought it - they may have had the same problem and found a solution - they may fix it for free to save face :)

Could be that one or neither is plat - so check both stones for CZ's too :)
How often has Grandma's ring turned out to be anything BUT a Diamond - someone else said it right though already - biggest factor is the wearer.

She did go back to the jeweler and he wanted to charge her $500 to fix it!!!

What is the difference between cast or hand made in terms of quality?
