Platinum Diamond Wedding Band Needs a Little Rehab - Yes or No

I picked up this platinum diamond wedding band at an auction and just received it. I had not seen it in person until today. It has about .4 carats of probably G-VS diamonds, it is a very sturdy, platinum heavy ring. It is very bright and blingy. The engraving and milgrain are a little worn as you can from the photos.

Should I have David Klass rehab it or leave it as is? I am leaning towards a rehab. Thoughts?

I think a DK rehab would definitely bring it back to a wonderful life, but then it might look close to new so I guess it depends what you want it to look like. For me, I'd do the rehab as DK's rehabs that I have seen always look fantastic.

Oooh, so pretty. Tough question. DKs rehabs are great, have one of my own, but is that the look you were searching when you bought it? I kind of like the character that it has. You can always change your mind to rehab, but once you do it, there's no going back. Nice find!

Wow that's awesome. I like it as is, but certainly DK would spiff it up like new. Maybe wear it as is for a while and see how you like it. DK will be there in a month or a year if you want to give it a facelift.

Please post a few more shots for us! It seems that the engraving and miligraining are in decent shape aside from the worn area that faces the palm. I’d bring it to a local jeweler to check the integrity of the stones and live with it for quite a while before making the decision, like others have recommended. That ring has a lot of hallmarks! Nice find—my favorite local antique market is set up this Sunday and I can’t wait to browse!

I always factor in cost. I’d be inclined to leave it as is.

Very pretty. I’m in the “keep it like that” camp, I like the evidence of history in my vintage / antique rings.

It looks gorgeous! Unless you’re worried about the safety of the diamonds, I’d keep it like it is.

I love this ring! I would leave it as is. The diamonds are safe and sturdy in the setting right? I love the vintage antique feel to the antique ring so that is my preference. I am not so much into the shiny and new and this is what brings character and personality to the ring IMO. It's perfect as is as long as the diamonds are safe in the setting. Congrats on such a lovely find.:appl:

That's beautiful  I would have difficulty choosing what to do as well.

I’d rehab it. The engraving and milgrain are noticeably worn but the pattern is still clear. If you’re worried that a rehab will make it look too new, maybe ask for a gentle rehab, not a like new finish?

Everyone thanks for your comments, which have been really helpful. You all have such great taste and experience in bling and bling rehab. Thanks for letting me pick your brains. I really do love the hunt for an antique or vintage band/ring. And PS has definitely helped me figure out what to buy in the antique/vintage world. Now if I just had the funds for a big 'ole OEC.

Looking Again - I agree that DK's rehabs are fantastic. I posted a ring he rehabbed last fall for me here:

It turned out great. I thought I was going to rehab this ring, no question. But when I got it, something made me stop and ask myself do I want a new looking ring or one that shows it has been loved?

Sandeek - exactly. There is no going back. He rehabbed a ring for me in the fall, see above. It needed help. But I am not so sure about this one.

Ringo865 - thanks so much. It is prettier and more substantial then I thought it was going to be. Love your avatar ring. So beautiful.

Foxinsox - I do like the gentle rehab idea. I am going to have to think on that one. I also like your avatar pups! So cute.

LJsapphire - thanks for understanding my 1st world problem.

Missy - thanks. you have such lovely taste (yes, I lurk and read NIRDIs too) and I agree - I like the old. It has character. Anyone can have a shiny new band ...but an older platinum one? I know this ring was loved and worn lots.

KristinTech - oooh an antique market! Fun. Good suggestion. I am going to take it into my bench tomorrow to see if the diamonds are secure, etc. And see what they have to say. I will try and post some more photos later or tomorrow. And nice stack.

Nala - really good point on cost. I suspect DKs' rehab would not be crazy expensive but it is still money on top of the purchase. And the ring cleaned up really well.

Snowdrop13 - I will have the diamonds checked tomorrow. But I cleaned the ring when it arrived and gave it a good once over. The diamonds seems pretty secure.

Bron357 - yes,so true - isn't that the point of buying an antique/vintage ring?

I will try and post some more pictures tomorrow and maybe the ring stacked with another band or two. I think I am going to live with it for awhile as many suggested.
