Platinum, 14k White Gold, or Palladium for this setting?

I've ordered my diamond so it's crunch time on deciding which metal I want for my band.

I've decided on this band:

http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER5651W44JJ

The design is intricate so I was considering platinum. The sales rep at ID Jewelry is suggesting white gold instead for a detailed design and that it would wear better than platinum. I enquired about the rhodium plating and she said every 5 years at the most. Gabriel only offers a white gold alloy mixed with nickel (I would have preferred white gold with palladium).

The quoted prices from ID Jewelry are $995 for 14k white gold, $1500 for platinum, or $850 in palladium. The rep said all three metals look basically the same.

Based on the design, which metal would be recommended? I want the intricate detail and small diamonds to be secure.

Also, does anyone know if ID Jewelry offers Pricescope discounts?

NOOOO Palladium........If you can do the Platinum go for it my platinum diamond band has lasted 26 years of wedded bliss.....not into this redipping stuff......

I also forgot to mention that my centre diamond is "I" colour with some fluo. Would the tint of platinum make the diamond look more yellowish? Would white gold help blend with the diamond to make the diamond look more white?

Thanks for any advice :)

All of my rings are 18k WG and look great. I've heard it's impossible to resize palladium and very few jewelers work with it. Honestly I would go with the white gold. If 18k isn't available 14k is fine. Put the $500 savings toward your wedding band :))

I agree go 18k if you can, 14k if you're at all on a budget. I mean, if you are rhodium plating it anyways then you won't really see a difference, and if you aren't, the slight warm undertones are beautiful. I'm always a gold over platinum gal, I just find the color more romantic.

And your I color should be fine

Will white gold be good for the type of design of my ring? I want the beautiful detailing to last for decades and I'm worried it may erode away with gold. Also, is gold or platinum more secure for the small stones in the band?

Also I've been informed that Gabriel uses 94.73 % platinum and 5.27% palladium for their platinum rings. I'm not sure if that's good or not!

Thank you for all the helpful input!

14k gold would be plenty sturdy enough to hold those melee stones.

I've been searching and reading the forums here all weekend trying to gather info to make this decision.

I haven't been able to find many photos of 10 or 20 year old intricate rings with normal wear and tear, however.

Would someone with a 10 to 20 year old intricate setting in either white gold or platinum mind posting pictures of the detail on their ring? I'd love to see how worn down each of them looks.

In the meantime I've been trying to look at intricate antique platinum rings, however I never know if they were worn daily or sat in a jewellery box for 50 years!

Thanks :)

Post a thread about that over in show me the bling. You will get more responses :))

I really like your setting. I love platinum due to its weight on your finger. I feel it feels solid and I actually even like it when it dulls. I think the real term is patina. Love to see what you are planning for a WB.i love the shape and detail of the band. Please post some pictures.

I have a channel set palladium ring. I thought it was a good choice due to cost and no plating however I think the metal looks grey and dull in comparison to my platinum ring. I'm not helping.....my sister is ver happy with her pave ring in WG. You don't see much of the metal on her ring anyway.
