And does it also mean the other 5% is ruthenium?

I did do a search but I only came up with a response that was attributed to e-weddingrings.com which I'm not sure is accurate: "All e-Wedding Bands platinum bands are 95% pure platinum and 5% ruthenium. This particular platinum/ruthenium alloy combination -- generally referred to as PLAT or PT950 -- is the highest purity available in platinum bands."

My engagement ring is stamped PLAT, and I was curious if from this stamp I could tell whether it's ruthenium or iridium.

Thanks to all the experts again!!

Edited to add: Just to be clear, my ring is NOT from e-weddingrings.com... or else I'd have the answer to my question!

No necessary, depend on who you buy it from. There are many different Pt alloys, all can be stamp PLAt or Pt950 as long as the % mass in the alloy mix is 95% Pt.

Thank you, Stone-Cold!
