I have this ring stamped 10k PSCO, I'm guessing Plainville Stock Company. Im wanting to know what kind of stone it is, age and what it might be worth. There is one diamond, or CZ missing and the ring itself is broken at the bottom. I also have this smaller stone I'm trying to identify. Thank you for any info

I was kinda thinking the same thing because of how dark it looks. Just for fun I tested it with a $10 "Diamond Selector 2" and the green stone set it off but the smaller ones didn't. Somewhere I read it works with most gemstones, do you think that's reliable at all?

Something created and paste diamonds would be my guess, you might get lucky and have a blue zircon and either white sapphires or real diamonds but they look like glass or paste or CZ (not real) diamonds in your photo.

The opal doublet or triplet in your avatar is very pretty!!!

I appreciate the information, I'll have to go do some research on those.

Thank you, that opal is my most prized possession. What makes you think its a doublet or triplet? I had to Google that real quick, first time I've ever heard it. Forgive me, I'm just an oilfield hick from Louisiana. As long as I can remember I've always collected agates and basically any cool looking rock but recently became quite interested in polishing some and the Googling began. After trying to identify some rocks that were given to me, possibly garnets and amethyst (still not sure) I learned just how deep the gemstone rabbit hole is.

You might be really lucky and have a beautiful solid opal from the top down it looks solid but the colour is so intense in your photo on the left side I assumed it could possibly be a triplet or a doublet ie an opal that has a backing..... Check underneath to see what that looks like google solid opals versus doublets and triplets, you should be able to see the difference of both;

It's very pretty irrespective of what it is.

I'm sorry, the ring and loose green stone all look like glass to me.
High quality genuine stones are rarely set into 10k.
The cut of the loose stone also points to glass.

A high ranking member of another forum told me a couple years ago "Its an Australian solid precious opal. They call this kind 'pinfire' or 'pinpoint'. The pinfire sparkles have beautiful colours, and they are pretty big, getting close to a pattern called harlequin." After that I started to research the stamp and this is pretty much all I found. I still can't even find a picture of an opal that looks significantly similar.

December 20, 2016 New York--Clyde Duneier, founder of family-owned jewelry company Clyde Duneier Inc., died Sunday. He was 88.

Duneier was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1928. Drafted for the Korean War, he served in Germany for several years in the Medical Service Corps unit. When he returned home, he started working at his father’s jewelry company, Haven Ring Company, before starting Clyde Duneier Inc. in 1969. He retired from his active executive position at the company in 1983 in order to dedicate his time to philanthropic efforts on behalf of Clyde Duneier Inc. Today, it is under the leadership of his sons, Marc and Dana, and grandchildren, Jake and Danielle.

Believe it or not, when I was 6 years old (1996) my mother found this half buried in the mud as we took a walk along the side of a creek near the hunting camp where we stayed the weekend. On the way home we stopped at a pawn shop so she could prove to my step dad that it wasn't just a "cheap gumball-machine ring" The guy running the shop had raised his offer up to $5,000 before my mom had it back on the gold chain she was wearing around her neck. She smiled and said "Thank you but its just too pretty to let go of"

To me the coolest part of the story is the 23 small stones. I was born on May 23rd and my only sibling, Ashley was born on September 23rd.

Mom has suffered all her life from Crohn's disease, constantly in and out of hospitals, countless major surgeries, which is where she happens to be now in New Orleans. Every time she has to go she takes it off, tells me to take care of it and its mine until she gets back home. Any information or opinions are appreciated. The photos simply can't show how amazing it looks btw, not even close.

Ashley was born on Bruce Springsteen's birthday :appl:
Your mum's ring is beautiful :kiss2:
What a find !

But your green ring is pretty awsome too, no matter what it is
its certainly pretty enough to get that missing stone replaced and take her out for some fun on occasion !

Cool yes you do indeed have a solid opal, not a doublet or triplet!!!! I'm an Aussie, it's an Aussie opal.
