I''m thinking of getting two 2mm palladium bands to go on either side of my 2mm micropave legato from WF. It''s platinum.

Do you think this would be a nice look?

Do you have any concerns about wearing the palladium next to the platinum?

Do you think the "whites" or "greys" will match?

I''ve got my eye on these from www.e-weddingbands.com. They''ve got a palladium sale that ends today for 10% off. Not significant, but I''d like to take advantage.

Or these from the maker Artcarved.

I''ve ordered from e.weddindbands before, so I''m happy to reorder from them unless someone has experience with Artcarved. I''ve found when I try on the Benchmark gold rings at jewelry stores, they run small. I don''t know if Artcarved works the same way.

Because of budget, I''m considering these palladium rings instead of platinum. And, instead of white gold that has to be rhodium plated occasionally, which would add cost over time to the rings. I hear the palladium does not have to be replated.

What do you think?

ETA: deleted orignal post: nevermind...it was something else i was thinking of...

Well, they look identical to me. If you sign up for Sea of Diamonds, it says you receive a $50 off coupon. I don't know if it would have restrictions, but maybe that's a bonus to look into. They have a 30 day return policy. There are no diamonds involved, so it seems like you're just looking at a price difference really.

ETA: I have never seen palladium, so I don't know if it would look different. If you're just looking for a temporary solution though, it seems fine. I also don't know if it would "eat" into platinum. That sort of thing is new to me.

Palladium and platinum will not hurt each other. However, the color of the palladium will likely not be a perfect match for the platinum once all the rhodium that may have been plated on is worn away. By then, you might not see much of a visual difference, but it won''t be at all apparent when they are brand new. It should be just fine unless you are very "picky" over the long haul. If you can go with the flow, you probably won''t mind the small visual differences.

Thanks David, that''s good to know.

David,
I just talked to e-weddingbands and they indicated that their 950 palladium (or PD950 as it is stamped) they use does not contain rhodium and is not rhodium plated. They told me this and that the bands are 95% palladium and 5% ruthenium, no rhodium. Did you mean rhodium that may have been applied to my platinum?

He meant that the palladium rings might have been plated with rhodium.

David, can you tell us what palladium looks like after it has been worn awhile? I read somewhere that during the war when they needed platinum, jewelers used palladium instead. But after the war they began using platinm again because it looked better over time. I wish I had saved the link, but I''d like to know what you think about the palladium versus platinum.

OK, I''m still considering this. Does anyone know how palladium looks after it''s been worn for a while?

I just got my first palladium ring today, so I''ll let you know in a couple of months what it looks like!

I''ve been wearing a palladium ring for a few months and it is wearing just like platinum to me. But it certainly is a bit of a different color.

Do you think the color difference would be apparent if I wear it with my micropave e-ring from WF? It''s 2mm wide plat and I might order 1.5mm wide palladium ones.

Where did you order it from? What are your initial impressions?

It''s a custom ring made by my local jeweler. So far I like it a lot. I wish it had the weight of platinum, but it definitely has the color. It''s just a tiny bit more gray than my platinum ring.

Does anyone know how the weight compares to gold or white gold?

I think palladium weighs about the same as white or yellow gold. I know it weighs quite a bit less than platinum.

I''m going to go test try some bands at the B&Ms, but if you have my e-ring, would you order domed or flat bands to wear on either side?

This is my ring http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--with-Micro-Pave_1071.htm

This is flat http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product45182.html

This is domed http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/product43256.html

They would only be 2mm, so I don''t think it would be a huge difference, but I think the look would be a bit different.

Anyone care to weigh in?

Well the top of your e-ring band has the diamonds, so THAT, not the metal, is going to be the most noticable part of the shank. If you were wearing a platinum PLAIN band, and a paladium PLAIN band together I''d worry more. But since one of them has the micro pave. I''d go for it.

I''m thinking about getting palladium micropave eternity bands instead of platinum ones for my W-ring(s)... and the shank of my e-ring is plain high polish platinum. I don''t know if I''m going to do it, but I think it will be okay if I do.

I have tried on Platinum, Palladium and 18K white bands and Platinum is the heaviest then 18K White and the Palladium was the lighest one. There isn''t much difference between the 18K and Palladium but 18K Gold was still a little heavier than Palladium.

In terms of color All three have their own distinctive colors and lustres. Between Platinum and Palladium there is much difference so you can wear them next to each other but all depends how fussy you are with matching.

Good thing about Palladium is the price is even lower than 18K gold and it''s quiet strong even on thin, elegant bands.

If they do plate them with rhodium to match them in color then you may have to deal with going back to platinum every six months to a year...

those palladium micropave eternity bands sound yummy. Do you have a website/vendor that has ones you are considering?

I have found there is not rhodium plating necessary and none applied. Palladium is naturally very near the color of platinum. That's why I want to go with it. Rhodium plating is more expensive than it used to be.

What do you think about going flat or domed?

I personally would go with the flat band. I think it will look well with the shank of your Ering - which is more flat than rounded itself.

Yep, that''s why all the sudden I am leaning toward it. I''ll report back when I do a "try on" in the store.
