Hi all, this is an antique ring with a moderate pit in the stone. I can’t find anything on Google about this. Is it like an actual hole in the stone? TIA!

Do you have pictures or a plot?

@chrono What is a plot? I have a picture but it doesn't look like anything, just a regular stone in the setting.

Was wondering whether there is a lab memo or appraisal showing this. It would be helpful to see close up pictures of this to better understand your concern.

Could be a natural that wasn’t polished out. could be damage.

Plenty of talk in RT about a knot on the surface having the opportunity to fall out, effectively leaving a pit/hole in the facet.

I have a ring with tiny sapphires in it. Some of them have (round circular) pits on the table facet. They are so tiny and the price point it was at, it doesn’t bother me.
