Are pinpoint inclusions a bad thing?

And what do the comments "clouds not shown" mean. Does it mean they are so minor that they did not bother showing on the plot? Will they affect clarity? This is on an AGS report.

It can, and usually does mean, as you suggest, that they are minor - however, if the unplotted cloud(s) are the inclusion(s) which make the clarity grade, they may also not be plotted (too messy) and carry a comment that the clarity grade is based on cloud(s) not plotted.

Its a VS2 grade. The plot shows some pinpoints and 1 feather (not near the girdle). And then of course those comments. However, the stone looks 100% eyeclean to me. Even with a loup I can only see the feather (white) and not the pinpoints.

Should an untrained eye be able to see pinpoints with a 10x loup? Or are they so small that you need a higher than 10x loupe to see them?

It is a very pretty stone. I''m just concered about all the pinpoints on the plot, the comments, and VS2. I have never bought below a VS1 before.

I believe clarity grading is done under 10x. So, yes, you could see them at 10x. I think you're ok.

Anyone?

I''d ditto Gary.

In a VS2 grade stone it shouldn''t present a problem. The pinpoints are probably only visible using the proper equipment (gemological microscope with darkfield illumination). I have in the past run into stones that were so saturated with pinpoints that it gave the stone a hazy overall appearance so if you do not see this hazy appearance when comparing it to other diamonds then you should be just fine.

Sometimes, a VS2 type white feather is preferable near the girdle..., and even more preferable just underneath the girdle on the pavilion side...

my opinion is that the diamond got the VS2 grade based on the feather..., the pinpoint could mean that if the feather was not in the stone..., it could potentialy be a VVS type pinpoint..., and that is allready hard to see even with the right equipment at 10x...
