Pink v Blue Sapphire

Hello

I have a pink sapphire engagement ring, but I am not happy with my pink sapphire. (it is 2.7cts emerald cut).

When the jelweller has polished my ring, the pink sapphire is just mind blowing and just sparkles like crazy. However, after a few weeks (I wear it al the time), the pink sapphire is quite dull......however a firned has a oval blue sapphire, and it seems to sparkle like crazy all year round, and she never takes the ring off either.

My questions are:

1. Is my stone dull because blue is brighter and sparkles more than pink?

2. Is it because its emerald cut as opposed to the blue being oval cut?

It is not a cheap stone as my e-ring with 2 diamonds either side of the pink sapphie cost over $5000US???

Any help would be very much appreciated.

It''s very simple, and it''s what you''ve observed yourself. You just need to have the ring cleaned regularly. I wear a diamond ring every day, and I have it cleaned once a month. The difference Before and After the cleaning is drastic. The lighter your stone, the more dramatic the results of a cleaning are. And perhaps your friend is having her stone cleaned regularly, too.

My mother had a pink sapphire and a light blue sapphire that were about the same "tone", and the rings got dirty at the same rate.

When you say "all the time," do you wear the ring in the bathtub? Swimming? Cooking? I find that nothing gunks up my ring like forgetting to take it off when I cook. I have a little dish to one side in the kitchen to hold my rings while I''m working.

Yup all you need to do is keep it clean, especially with an emerald cut, they are less forgiving with dirt and grime. Buy some jewelry cleaner and clean it on a regular basis. You''ll be amazed at the difference. Don''t let it get gunked up with lotions and soaps, that will just make it look dull.

Thanks guys, that's just common sense I didnt think about!!!! I'm thick - sorry!!!!

Yes I wear my ring everywhere!!! In the garden (i know i shouldnt!!), swimming, shower, playing play-doh with my son!!!

I will buy some cleaner and start doing iy myself every month, instead of the jelweller twice a year!!

Bugaboo, your ring is gorgeous!! I have to tell you though, most of us anal people here on PS clean our rings daily not monthly, LOL!!! That way it looks gorgeous every day.

Very very very pretty color. Lovely ring.

Don't change it! Just clean it daily and then take it to the jeweler 2x a year or as needed.

If you and your friend are close you could ask how often she cleans her ring. But like another PSer said an EC shows dirt more quickly than a RB would.

Gorgeous, gorgeous ring!

BUT...wearing it all the time isn''t the greatest. Take it off and put it in a safe place when you are gardening, bathing, or swimming. It is ESPECIALLY bad to wear your ring while swimming - the chemicals in pool water are awful for it!

Like I said, I keep a ring dish in my kitchen, and a jewelry dish in my bathroom. That way I have a safe place to put them, and a "first place" to look for them.

Your ring is breathtaking!! Absolutely beautiful. It''s also true that an EC needs a lot of attention when it comes to cleaning. Since it has such a large table, it really makes a difference in sparkle when it''s clean vs. smudgy. I never take mine off either, but a little ultrasonic cleaner once a week can make a whole world of difference (still nothing like the steam at a jewelers). Clean or not, though - that''s a GORGEOUS ring!

Yep, you just need to clean it daily. It is amazing how smudgy a diamond or gemstone can get in one day even if you are careful with them.

Wow, that ring is gorgeous! And I agree, even monthly is not enough.

I admit I''m in the daily cleaning category. It takes very little time when you don''t let grime build up.

PS- you don''t need to always ultrasonic it, I don''t own an ultrasonic but a soft toothbrush and a spray on cleaner, or some warm water with windex, with a rinse with distilled water can do wonders.
