Pink Sapphire - Help Needed

Hi all.

I posted here a few years ago for help with my wife's e-ring under a different name (Can't login anymore!). I now need some PS help again! =)

I am in the market for a round pink sapphire, approximately 9.40mm in diameter. I want to give my wife a right hand ring as a companion to her diamond e-ring (similar in shape and size). I think this would be about 3.5 carats (?).

I am not too picky about the shade of pink, but more vivid is better, but I do not want to break the budget. I will accept a lighter pink if it's a great price! Cut is important of course. Eye clean is fine. I actually don't even know what my budget is, I guess I am flexible if it's a good deal. I don't know what ballpark a stone like this would cost though.

Can anyone recommend me a vendor? Or perhaps a good deal on a stone you've come across?

Any help would be appreciated. I have made some inquiries so far, but haven't made much progress yet.

Thanks all!

:wavey:

Sounds like a fun project! Have you checked out the list of vendors above yet? I'm sure someone else will mention it but a pink spinel might also be a good option.

AJS does not have any round pink sapphires but I guesstimate from your measurement that the stone has to be at least 4 carats. Presuming average saturation and tone, a heated pink sapphire of 4 carats is around $6000. Something with purer hue and stronger saturation could easily be in the $10k range.

Thanks for the info so far. I will keep up the search and post back!

I decided I am open to ovals as well. I am thinking of going with a "flower" type ring, and like the way these look with the ovals. LM has some nice examples.

I see a few nice large ovals on AJS. Pretty big difference in prices between them!

I'm glad you are open to ovals because you aren't going to find many (if any) round pink sapphires of over 4 carats. Slight nuances of colour can mean very big differences in gemstone pricing, so it is important that you know exactly which shade you want.

Pink 1: average coloured pink with a small window.
Pink 2: browner than Pink 1 but has better cut
Pink 3: nicest pink coloration of the 3 but really lacking in cut. Has a good sized window.

You think pink-1 has potential?

And thanks so much for your time!

The only thing I like about three is the color but I wouldn't make it a candidate otherwise. The other two are both kind of magenta in color but better than the third. I do see the small window Chrono mentioned.

Not too sure how I feel about the magenta color.

It isn't particularly attractive, not showing a pure pink hue, poor to medium saturation and the cut isn't good. Taking into note that AJS' stones are slightly less amped up in person, I recommend passing on this one.

NSC1 has a strange cut, coupled with a hint of orange and brown.
NSC2 has better colour but leaks like a sieve with the bay door

I like the round at the very bottom of this page, last stone. He calls it a "rosy pink". It's smaller than you're looking for I know, but very pretty.

I didn't love the cuts on the two you just posted either. But you are very determined and a good searcher. New things come up every day on these sites.

Ouch! I am not doing very good, am I?

This is much harder than finding a diamond!

That stone is very beautiful. Just wish it was a bit larger. :(sad

Thanks for the kind words.

Sure! I just did a google search and came up with this site. It has some larger sizes. But I don't know much about the vendor. There are some ovals though.

Yes It's way harder than buying a diamond.

There seem to be this misconception that diamonds are rare and difficult to purchase when in reality, coloured stones are rarer and more difficult to purchase. :twirl:

It looks to be very promising. Spinels are also generally untreated, plus it is much less than a heated sapphire. For those unable to log in, this one is only $3500.

You should contact them about it today. Lately they seem to have less of them coming up and they go faster than they used to.

Back to the Africa gems page. Without clicking on individual stones for details the one's that catch my eye are top row forth stone, second row last stone because I like longish ovals and baby pink, and maybe the bottom row third stone.

I sent them an email.

I am leaning towards a sapphire though.

Top row fourth stone looks included.

I love the second row last stone. Very pretty and delicate! I am going to inquire.

I just don't know anything about the vendor though. Can't really find anything on them.

Glad to hear it. I wasn't sure either. So do you have a setting in mind, or are you going to decide when you find your stone?

I do have a few LM settings in mind. I'll post them.
