Has anyone out there got this setting?

If so could you post a picture and the ring specs / finger size?

Would be great to see on finger :)

Here is the 4 prong classic on a size 7 finger. Blue nile prongs are fat, chunky and not stylish. I would ask them to thin and sharpen the prongs; they will probably say no but it won't hurt to ask.

I'm worried about the chunky prongs, especially since I'm going for 6.

I love the brian gavin half round but since I'm buying my diamond from blue nile, I thought I would try it in one of their settings and then if I didn't like, keep the diamond but return the setting only...

Any more pictures?

Hopefully they won't be bulky.

I think usually 6 prongs are thinner?

Do you think from the picture that the diamond is set quite high or low? I think my partner is in the minority in preferring a lower set diamond.

Mine was low set.

Thanks for the info whitewave. Anymore pictures out there?

BN's Petite Nouveau is much better...

Is that the setting for the ring in your avatar? My only concern about her petite nouveau is that I though the heads of the prongs looked bigger. Although trying to judge without seeing it on a hand it difficult!

It's a shame blue nile don't offer more 6 prong settings to choose from!

No, I have a modified CVB "Jovyn" with petite tab prongs. Do you have to get a setting from BN? Caysie (of CVB) does the best solitaires, IMO.

You have to consider the size of the stone... the prongs are going to look larger on a smaller stone. Mine is 3.33 ct, but Caysie will make them super fine to suit your stone. :)

What is the mm spread on your diamond?

The ring I'm looking at is a lot smaller. 1.1 carat. It's 6.65 x 6.62 x 4.06 mm!

Unfortunately since I'm based in the UK it does make it a little more difficult - I thought I would see how it looked in the blue nile setting then I could always return only the setting and try to get something local to me...

The setting on your diamond looks amazing.

Here's a thread with pics showing a 1.5 ct center stone in that setting:

If you two don't care for the prongs once you have the ring in hand, there's an alternative to keeping the diamond and returning the setting: have a good local "bench" remove the stone, pare down the prongs, and re-set the stone. Those BN prongs are readily susceptible to that kind of refinement.

ETA to add pricing info: Caysie van Bebber's Jovyn setting in platinum is priced at more than 3 times the cost of the Blue Nile platinum Classic:

I wouldn't go with the BN Classic, and I certainly wouldn't pay for that style in platinum... it's the most basic looking setting (i.e. the kind they give you for free when you purchase a diamond). The Petite Nouveau is much more refined. You could have them shape the prongs for you, but I can guarantee the prongs on the Classic will be just as heavy, if not more so.
