Picking pear side stones - Take #2! Opinions?

I wasn't sure if I should start a new topic or add onto the old, so sorry if I should have asked this the other way!

Anyway, I would love your opinions on these 2 options for pear stones for a classic 3 stone ring by SK. Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions on the pears (asking Steven for them) and I am interested in the length/width ratio to help figure this out. The center diamond is 3.25 carat and the choices are 1.04 total carat weight (left) or .85 total carat weight (right). I kind of pieced the 2 pictures together so I am also including each separate picture. One of the pears is a bit crooked in one picture...

I would really appreciate your feedback! Also, any sign of bow-ties? I am not sure if you could even tell without seeing them in person.

Thank you!!!!

top one in box to die for

I like the top as well. The pairs seem more chubby and I like that ! beautiful!!

I like the top pair too the more squat shape seems to go better with your large centre stone.

Number 1! *swoon*

I absolutely love the 1 carat pair! Perfection!!!

So funny but I absolutely like the length and proportions of the second pair (.85's) SO much better! The others are much too chubby! Very surprised at the answers!

My vote also goes for the 1.04ctw pair - love them paired with your center stone!

ah good! i was hoping you'd get to see it with chubby ones! i really love those.

Me too, I like the skinnier pair.

# 2= seems more in proportion and delicate compared the other set. But, if you like the ring to POP- then the other set.

Me three. I prefer #2 as well. I like the length of the pears- will give great finger width coverage.

I should add that I really do prefer a more substantial look versus dainty if that makes a difference . As some of you know, I was hesitant on the smaller set. With the added choice of the bigger 1.04 set, I initially liked them right away but then I started wondering if they were a too chubby. The picture of the 1.04 set isn't as good as the .84 (the pears seem tilted), so I am hoping Steven will send a bit more info on them.

I really do value everyone's opinion so keep it coming! I honestly didn't think that the pears would be the biggest challenge in this whole project!

Thank you!!!

I like the chubby bigger pair especially knowing your wish for a more substantial look!

Eta: but you can't go wrong with either set.

I love the 1.04 pair with your diamond!

I really like the chubby pears but I don't think they let your center stone shine. I think the smaller pears are a perfect accent to your diamond and let it be the center of attention. The chubby pears with your diamond make a solid grouping and the center stone does not stand out if that makes sense, lol.

I like the skinner pair as well. Seems to flow better with your center stone. :wavey:

They are both gorgeous, but I prefer the #2. It think it makes your center stone the focal point and looks more graceful.

I like number 2...the pears look longer even though they are smaller. The fat pears arent bad though. Cant go wrong with
either IMO.

chubbies for me!!!!

You know, something about those chubby pears appeals to me - and yet I think in the long run the smaller ones are going to afford more finger coverage because of their length. I'm leaning towards the smaller ones. I think both sizes look very pretty.

I like both options, but if I could only pick one it would be the 1st pair (chubbies). Something just keeps drawing me back to them.

Love #1, love the blingy look, love love love!

Pears are such a thing that either you like long ones or you like chubbier ones. It's entirely subjective.
You wanted a bigger ct weight, there is definitely a more substantial look because the "bulk" of the piece will be focused on one area instead of spread out with the longer pair.
I do not agree that it takes away from the center stone because they're all such gorgeous stones!

I have been checking this thread all day and it looks like right now the votes are leaning toward the 1.04 carat. I literally have changed my mind a 1/2 dozen times today! This is so hard! I really was hoping that I would get both dimensions so I could look at it that way, but so far Steven sent the dimensions for the 1.04 carat (6.22mm x 4.43mm) which makes the length/width ratio 1.4. Ideally I wanted the L/W at 1.5-1.6. He originally said the .85 set was 6.5mm x 4.5mm but that definitely has to be rounded up (or the depth is really shallow). Ha, I am in finance and I use numbers to make decisions...can't help it!

Diamondseeker2006 had sent this link for a Tiffany ring and one pear was 5.95mm x 4.44 (L/W of 1.34). I did think they were a tad chubby for the ring. Do you think 1.4 is much different (will look a bit less chubby)?

I am sure I am thinking through this WAAAAAAY to much! Thanks for your input so far and feel free to give me any more thoughts you have! :loopy:

A quick update, Steven said the dimensions are as follows:

0.85 carat is 6.5mm x 4.5mm
1.04 carat is 6.22 x 4.43mm

So technically the .85 should face up bigger? I might as well go with these since they are $700 cheaper...

Thanks again for your help on this!

That is surprising from what I see visually, except that maybe because the .85 pair is longer they don't look as fat. I would go with Steven's recommendation, probably, since he can see them. But for me, it would be the .85 pair, as you already know!

Diamondseeker2006 - I was very surprised too, but I guess I will have to trust him!

The .85 pair actually does look bigger to me. I think because they're skinnier that's what is throwing it off--but I think if you want more finger coverage, that's the pair to go with!

I just talked to Steven...he said the 1.04 pears just don't look as good and have a more noticeable bow-tie than the .85 pears. So am going with the .85 pears! He might be able to get the ring done in 2 weeks! I will post pictures when I have it! Thanks for helping me out!

Now maybe I can sleep tonight now that the decision is made! Although now the wait............ :o

Great! I think you made the right choice, and you have Steven's expert opinion backing the decision! As I said in a previous post, I think the smaller stones will end up giving you great finger coverage due to their length. This ring is going to be gorgeous, I can't wait to see the finished piece!
