Since I posted here yesterday, I thought I would update the nice people who replied. I was the lady was going to see a local sale diamond, 1.02 pear center .75 sides for 800 dollars. I went to the retail location, the owner of the business was selling the diamond, his name was on the sale slip, credit card slips, the retail business itself and the insurance appraisals, so that was reassuring to me. I had a loupe so I looked the diamond over carefully, and then we took it to the local jewler. It was diamond and very nice, at least IMHO so I bought it, and its on my finger now, very pretty. I am moving up from a .4 L color I1-I2, so it is a huge leap for me.
These are the diamond specs;
Pear shaped, brilliant cut, 1.02 weight, G color, SI2 (all I saw under the loupe was a tiny carbon spot that I could hardly see, I would have pegged it at SI1), 7.62 by 5.02 by 3.82 depth, table measurement 64%, depth 76.1. The mounting is .75 and they are VS, G-H stones very sparkly. There are two appraisals, one from Blue Diamond, and one from EGL, both of which have listed of course a very inflated value. The man had bought it for an engagement gone bad and it had never been worn, he paid 3250 three years ago, and gave me all the sales and credit card slips.
The slip says that it was cut by paramount and the diamond has a number by it, does that mean that there is a number inscribed on the diamond?
