The Cut Group would like your help to narrow down the best of the best of the 9 cushion variants shown in these DiamCalc videos.
Quicktime video movie

Some are potentially brighter and or more firey than the best round brilliant.
So far only one has been polished.

After picking the best for the POLL, you may also rank all 9 stones like this:
123
456
789
Or if you only want to pick say your 3 favourites – just post like this:
654

How are these numbered? 123
456
789

Or is it some other way? 147
258
369

There are mystery numbers under the 9 selections but no regular, 1 through 9 numbering that I can see.

Garry,

I really hope you will do the diamonds with slower tilt and in different lighting is very very difficult to judge based on that video. You need a 5 minute video and much longer time between tilting so one can look at each diamond at each position.

Also I''d like to see the ASET lighting and office lighting I really am not liking the HDR light source.
The main knock on a lot of Modern Cushions is they perform well in bright spot lighting (like an office) but not well in other conditions.

7 2 9 is my pick. To be perfectly honest, I am not loving any of them.

For Modern Cut cushions, I believe I''d prefer 3,5,8 since they appear to have thinner, needle-like sparkles more typical of modern cut rounds. If we were going for older cut imitations, my choices would change entirely. I''m not sure about the limitations imposed by this short video or the limited lighting model selected. No doubt, in other lighhting, with differing tilt angles, etc, etc, one might be tempted to choose others as better than the ones I have given above.

I want a three-dimensional computer-screen in order to state a preference.

But then again, I do not care, either of these stones, diameter 50 mm would do as a X-mas-gift. Thank you.

Really difficult to tell from the video. But based on the facets, I''d say 2,7,4. Based on performance, the same ones wouldn''t be my pick. Think you need a better video, or see them in real life to decide.

DiamCalc movies can be seen in Red blue 3D Paul.
The real stone movies will probably be made available in Liquid crystal 3D format. We have a viewer for this already that you can download and watch several rough and polished diamonds in 3D - downloadable from the OctoNus site.
Let me know if you wish to Paul - assuming you have the right equipment there?

It is OK, Garry. The problem is my own brain, that keeps whispering ''aluminium'', while I am watching these videos. At no point do I have the feeling that I am looking at a diamond, and that is bugging me.

As for the size of the stones, that obviously will have a great effect on the outcome of your poll.

The big question, I guess, is if real-life-observation of the same stones confirms the results of the poll.

Live long,

Live long,

We have plan to cut 4 cuts with highest score from this Poll , then take moves of real diamonds in our LightBox and repeat Poll tests here, then do Poll for real diamonds in different light conditions during Basel 2011.
