Alternate title: Show Me The Ring...on my finger, please?
9.gif

Yesterday, J and I had a GREAT day--went out to St. Albans, shopped for wedding rings for us both (hehe!), checked out the market that was going on, had afternoon tea, and then we went home and he made the delicious meal that he made the night he proposed! All in all, a wonderful day.

The wedding ring shopping was interesting. As I had suspected, plain bands of all types just looked mismatched with my ring. The best matches were mostly very, very thin eternity bands (ones between 1.8mm and 2.2mm looked good) and wider but slightly more intricate bands (which I am not sure about). One of the wider ones was made by a local jeweler and looked like no other band I had seen before. I am not sure how well it goes with my ring, but would look amazing on its own to be sure--only problem is that it's way out of budget. But I had found other rings that may be somewhat similar in style and non-matchy-matchy matchiness, if that makes any sense. I am terrible with photoshopping things, but maybe one of you could help me get a better idea of how this ring would look on my handshot picture I will provide?

Ok, first here's the handshot...

Next, here's a ring that may fuse the 'thin diamond band' look with the antique-ness of my ring, while also being in (or at least close to) budget. Would someone please photoshop this onto my handshot for me? Sorry there aren't any other angles. Hope that isn't a problem!

However, I don't know anything about the vendor--has anyone heard of "Sea of Diamonds?" Here's a link to the listing--it's 14K white gold, 1/3 carats of G/H SI diamonds, and 2.5mm wide for US$485: click me!

Another possibility would be a pave band from LOGR (although am not sure after I've read some things on here about the workmanship...but then, what can I expect for such cheap prices?). Would it be possible to photoshop this onto my hand pic as well, please? (Sorry it's huge!)

ETA: Whoops, sorry, forgot the stats--this one is 0.61cts, 14K gold, 2mm wide, price seems to be around US$300? Maybe closer to US$350-$400 after sizing adjustments (need a 9) and shipping to the UK.

Excel also has a pave band that''s a half eternity (which doesn''t bother me!)--it''s 1.85mm wide, 14K gold, 0.18cts of G, VS stones for US$500. This is very similar to the pave bands I tried on (although those were all over £1500). This one I know would look lovely.

And, this is the cool half eternity band from the local jeweler we visited. It interests me because it feels both antique and modern at the same time! At just over £1000, it''s almost definitely out of budget, but I wanted to share it because it is unusual (at least to me), and in case anyone has seen anything similar that might be more affordable.

Here it is on its own--18K gold, .79ct of diamonds (G, VS stones), about 3.5mm wide, I think?

And, paired with my engagement ring. Does it match? I can''t tell! Sorta. I think?

Anyway, those probably sum up the contenders (minus that last one, probably, due to cost). Which do you prefer? Generally I''m a simple girl and would just go for a plain band, but will have to go with something sparkly to not look totally wonky with my ring.

Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for any photoshopping help!

Gwennie,

I have zero photoshopping skills, but i wanted to say i actually really like the jewelry store ring with your ering - i think it''s a nice looking set! (i also don''t love matchy matchy). I think the first option you posted would be fantastic with the ering - I also think the half eternity would be nice. the three sided pave, i am not sure about. I love the look, but i think you''d have to do it on it''s own.

yay - fun project!

Gwen, I think your e-ring is soooo beautiful!!! Do you have access to places that sell "antique" rings? I think an old one would look so nice with your e-ring. I have an old wedding band that belonged to my father''s mother, and it was a plain band with a design engraved into it. I think something like that would look nice with your ring. I''d really rather have a band with a design versus one with poor quality diamonds. I wish Van Craeynest wasn''t so expensive because they have many beautiful bands that I think would be pretty with your ring. What is your budget for your wedding band? Sorry I can''t help with Photoshop!

Thanks for the input, ladies! Hopefully someone will some skillz (oh yeah, with a z) will come along and help us visualize the bands.

violet, oh good, so it's not just me that thinks that jewelry store ring looks good with my ring! Such a cool piece of jewelry--it would also look amazing on its own, which I like. Thank you!

ds dahlink, thank you so much! My ring was my great-grandmother's engagement ring.

gemgirl, thanks for the nudge about your previous posts--no, I hadn't seen that ring! Thank you!! It does look like an amazing match--as good as I could hope to get if I want them to be a matched set. I think it'll probably look the best of all the options, but it wouldn't be the sort of ring I'd wear after we got my forever set (which will probably be Mark Morrell, so modern looking). The benefit of the simpler diamond bands is that they could work well with a plain plat band and a plain plat solitaire, to add some extra bling when I want. But, those rings look a *little* odd to me with my ring because of the shoulders mine has.

So, hmmm. Don't know. Of course, it might also be worth me getting a proper small diamond band when we have money for a nice one...

Ooops...I just saw your other thread where you said you didn''t want milgrain or engaving and hope to get a MM ring later. In that case, I would get an inexpensive plain band that can be your "travel ring" when you don''t want to wear an e-ring. I just wouldn''t waste money on a temporary diamond ring. I''d save the money to get the perfect one to go with your future MM ring!

The future MM ring will probably be 4 or 5 years after we're married in April. We're going to buy a house first, and that's going to take a while to save for, and then there's the saving up for the MM rings after we've bought and settled into our house...so yeah, I will be wearing this set for a while. Also, if possible, I'd like a band that I love for itself (like the first one in this thread), so that after the MM comes along, the band will still be able to be worn with that set, or on my right hand by itself. If the photoshop of the first ring looks good, I might go for that one because it wouldn't be temporary, y'know what I mean?

I''ve seen some pretty rings on ebay that were similar to your ering. I don''t recall them looking *exactly* the same, so they wouldn''t be totally matchy, if you don''t want that. Is that a possibility?

Sure, I would be open to that, and would possibly prefer a matching style that wasn''t a perfect match. I have checked eBay a few times, but my ring size is big (size 9, or an S/T in UK sizing), so there aren''t many secondhand rings that would work well size-wise.

I like the jewelry store ring with your grandmother''s ring. It looks very nice on your hand. I do think it would look very beautiful on its own, too.

Can it be sized to fit your finger or can they order it in your size?

I like the first and last bands.. the first one because of the different shapes and milgrain and the last looks lovely with your er..

Thanks, SDL honey!

I think that last band is so cool! I think I might keep it saved on my computer for a possible future purchase...

So no one can help with the photoshopping? Maybe just the first ring? Don''t think the LOGR is in the picture anymore and I more or less know what the Excel ring would look like, so could someone please just photoshop the first band onto my finger, if it''s possible? Please?

Here is the best I could do. Just like a real life cut and paste project, photoshop results work best when the two objects are in a simular lighting and relative size. To get technical: the light in the room your hand shot is in dark, and metal often has a brown color in dark lighting, whereas the ring to be added is in brilliant lighting and is the color of photocopy paper. I tried to dull the ring down...but looks very fake. I will try again if you shoot your hand again straight on in bright lighting.

Thanks :) Laura

Oh, and PS: I have no way to gauge the actual size relation, the ring might look wider or more narrow in real life. Your milage may vary.
