I can't express how relieved I am to see so many struggling with hair loss. It makes me feel like I'm not alone. I've been losing my hair for over a year now. I'm 33 and I have less hair density now than my mother.I wish I knew what was going on. I feel like the doctors I've seen couldn't care less. I've gotten no answers. Now, I'm crying...it was really hard to put that out there.
Phoenix, I'm glad you're starting to make progress with it.
@Phoenix I go to the Spire Hospital, here in Cheshire. It's a private hospital & there is a chain of them all over the UK. The Dr I use is a specialist in facial reconstruction surgery & he is just amazing. I have had my nose to mouth creases done every year for the last 4 years, with Juvaderm, but each time (funnily enough I was there this last Friday) he uses less & less & some goes into the bin. I'm not sure which type of Juvaderm he uses - I leave everything up to him. We were comparing the photos he took from my first visit to now, and the filler is holding up better each time. Honestly, for such a simple procedure it has transformed my appearance & I am more than happy to pay for it.
The other thing I like about this Dr, is that he's like a magician. Nobody would ever guess it has been done because it's so gentle & subtle in the end result. Even after the first time, when he had to use 2 syringes (now we're down to 3/4 of 1 syringe) nobody said "wow! You've had your face done!" The only comments were "wow! You look great! You're obviously getting more sleep than I am!" And that was the result I wanted.
@Phoenix Do you have an email address I can contact you through so then I'll send you the Dr's details? He's fascinating by the way - lots of stories of reconstructions & how they do it. And if you head up this way, we must go out for coffee or something!
I can't get you on this link - it's saying it no longer exists. Do you have a username I can search for?
Nope, I can't get it. It just tells me in red letters that the link no longer exists. If you have an active listing, just let me know what it's for & I'll do a quick search & find you that way? Am in & out a bit now as the girls are back from school & we have swimming lessons to get to, but I will certainly do it tonight!
Yes, I agree you should get your T3 and T4 checked too.
What about your antibodies? This was the ONLY indicator that something was "off" with me, leading me to take thyroxin to combat the hair loss, fatigue, weight gain etc.
These were mine in Oct this year. I've stayed about the same last 7 years. Once your antibodies level is elevated, it stays elevated.

@elle_71125 I am so sorry to hear you are having to go through this too. Do you mind me asking how old you are now?
When my Dr was talking about the effects of low Vit D, she did mention that it's all interlaced with hormones & the endocrine system & I do know quite a bit about that myself thanks to my daughter. She will be 9 in March, but she started showing signs of puberty just before she turned 5. It was a long haul & she has had more cannula's in her arm than the cannula factory, but she was eventually diagnosed with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. It's brain achingly complicated & the puberty is a side effect & not an issue per se (though we are expecting her to start her periods before she turns 10) but consequently I do have some understanding of how the system can mess with hair growth. Whilst I have had no initial markers in any of my blood works to imply there is fault with mine, the condition is genetic & therefore next summer, hubby & I will have full endocrine screening. This is purely for their research to understand the condition a little more, but it did cross my mind that if there IS anything in my system that is causing random funky hair loss, they'll find it at that time. I'm sure they won't as like I say, there are no initial markers in my tests to warrant further investigation, but it will be nice to know I am in tip top shape.
Good luck with your testing, when are you going? And please keep us posted.
I'll have to look again, but I don't remember seeing those on mine. Just the TSH (well, plus random other stuff like cholesterol, sugar, vet).
Your hair is glorious!I love the color and it just looks so smooth (growing up with hair that can't decide if it wants to be curly or straight makes me appreciate this quality). It's so long too. Is there a lot of maintenance involved in that?
I think the length and color in this last pic looks the best on you!
Yep, keep us/ me updated please. I did a bunch of other things too, the complete blood works.
I feel that perhaps yr Dr(s) has/haven't been thorough enough in their testing of you, perhaps (?).
@elle_71125, 33 is indeed far too early to be starting losing hair! That's so NOT normal!!
Your Drs do not seem to be doing enough either. I'd def ask for a complete check up/ blood tests on everything. Check for auto-immune diseases too. My endocrinologist (as useless as he is/ was) ordered so many tests, checking my hormones, Vit deficiencies, diabetes, blood cell counts etc...and thyroid of course.
I am no dr. I just looked up those medicines and it doesn't look like they could be the culprit(s).
Vit D deficiency might be the cause. If it's thyroid, you'd have other symptoms too. How's yr weight been? Are you passing regularly? How about sleeping? Your mood, meaning are you more irritable now? (well, other than the hair loss distressing you, I'd imagine)
Thank you, Elle.
Actually, I think it's the lighting in the first 2 pics. My hair has never been black, always been on the dark brown side, though at the moment it is coloured a colour very close to my natural one, primarily to cover the greys which have started! The condition is very good though. I don't really do much with my hair, other than wash, condition and blow-dry it at home. I do go to Kim Robinson here and the hair cuts & colouring are damn expensive!! I don't do heat treatment or anything of the sort or any special serum etc...since I'm too lazy!!
My hair is also not straight. It's slightly wavy, and that used to drive me bonkers at times, though at the moment I'd just be grateful to have a full head of hair, wavy or not wavy. Mind you, when it was super long, the weight just pulled it down and made it appear like it's dead straight.
Hardly anything!
The only testing done was when I went to urgent care with HUGE feet and got wheeled down to the emergency room.
When I followed up with my doctor, she said it wasn't anything to be concerned about as "overweight people often get swollen feet" so I should just go lose weight. (More details in the bad doctor thread)
It took arguing to get her to even order some tests to check thyroid and heart. (Resting heart rate is near 100, feel fluttery in my chest at times, easily winded, very swollen feet/legs, weight gain even with diet/exercise, red spots all over arms, very weak nails, an eye that bleeds sometimes when I get sinus issues) It didn't seem wise to jump blindly into heavier exercise when my heart rate while hiking one day spiked over 200 bpm!
I'm so sorry to hear all this, @TooPatient . I'm outraged for you!!
Resting heart rate of 100 is far too high!!But I'm sure you already know that. There's no point in doing heavier exercise now, I am sure you also know the first thing to do is to try lose weight and doing light exercise, like walking (not jogging) initially. I don't know how your eye can bleed when you get sinus issues. Can you pls link me to the bad Dr thread? I tried to look for it under your username but couldn't find it. In the meantime, pls take care and give those Drs a hard time! Be insisttent!! {{HUGS}}
