petite 5-stone split shank?

Good afternoon everybody. I stumbled across this site and I''m really impressed with the wealth of knowledge and good cheer! I hope one or two of you can spare a moment to advise me on our purchase.

We like the idea of a five-stone engagement ring as a celebration five years spent together. Nice idea, but it all depends on finding the right style.
If the style doesn''t work for me then we are happy to go for a solitaire.
Either way, we plan to go the custom-made route.

I have slim fingers and the five-stone rings we''ve seen so far look too wide and heavy.

In my mind, I have an image of an elegent five-stone with very thin, split shanks. Does such a design exist?

I have attached an interesting variation of a five-stone split shank. This is a tad too dressy for me, but it was the shape that caught my eye.

This is the only example I have found that even hints at the ring in my mind. But its still a long way off. Can anyone help?

I love the one you posted. What exactly don''t you like about that one? I''m not quite sure how else to make a 5 stone split shank look except to take off the melee on the shanks.

Hi Callisto thanks for your comments. If we removed the melee, reduced the width of the shank (would this be possible for weight / setting issues?) and changed the cut of the central diamonds to an EC or AC ... then I think it would be closer to what I had in mind. But I''m such a novice that what I have in mind may be totally impossible - and may even look horrible if someone drew it!!
I do really admire the ring in the photograph, but I''m wondering if it strays a little too far from the ''classic'' engagement style. I''m not sure I could wear rose gold with pink diamonds as my skin tone is not quite suitable. I''m thinking of brushed or satin 18k yellow gold.

Hi Erika,

What about something like below? Five emeralds with a delicate, all-metal split shank. It'd have to be custom, I think, but there are plenty of fabulous recommended PS vendors who could pull it off.

(Keep in mind I used a paint program, which is why it looks so bad, but it gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.)

You might also be able to get a smaller shank if you go with a graduated stone down the sides form the center.

Ah, I LOVE rose gold! What a pretty ring. Have you tried any rose gold rings on in person to get a better idea of how the color will look on your hands? I''ve been tempted to order RG rings over the last few years, but haven''t ever tested to see if it''d work on me!

Hmmm, personally, I love the melee on the shank. But if you think its too blingy I''m sure he could do one without and all in yellow gold or use colorless diamonds. I think an asscher cut 5 stone would be really neat. Don''t worry about finding something classic... just find something you love an want to wear all the time. If that strays from the pack a little bit, who cares?

I agree that if you use graduated stones you could get the thinner shank that you are looking for. Also, maybe use a 1.5 mm band if possible to make the ring look more delicate. I love the ring you posted, and if you like the rose gold I would definitely make a trip to the jewelry store and see if the color could suit you after all. And correct me if I''m wrong PSer''s, but you can also get varying shades of rose gold depending upon the amount of copper used in the alloy. So, if you are going the custom route anyway, you could find a rose gold combination that works with your skin tone. Just a thought!

Thank you all so much for your ideas and suggestions. I''m going to follow them up over the next couple of weeks and see where I get.
This is a very exciting but quite bewildering process! The more I investiagte your website, the more ideas I have.
I love the drama of five-stones but I also love classic solitaires.
I love rose gold on paper, but will need to try it against my skin first.
I do agree that an engagement ring should be as glamourous and daring as you like. Afterall, once you are married, I suppose you don''t have to wear it everyday (that''s what the wedding band is for).
