What is a peg set, and is it not advisable for a larger stone? Is it something different than a regular prong setting? Thanks.

If Im not mistaken, a peg set is when they use a peg head and install it into a shank and weld it together. It can be prong, bezel, etc.

It can probably be redone, if necessary......anyone know anything about "tulip-heads?"

ame- you are not mistake.
The term "Peg Head" refers to a style of setting.
The head is the part that holds the diamond.
A peg head has.. yes, it has a peg on the bottom
The shank is the part that wraps around your finger- some shanks have a hole to accept a Peg Head.
For example, if you have a standard wedding band, ad wanted to put a diamond on it- you''d drill a hole and use a Peg Head.

The weak point iof this arrangemt is that by their very nature, peg heads look....pegged on.
Also they are much taller than a basket type of setting whick may be integrated into the setting as opposed to siumply stuck on top.
