I know zilch about pearls! But I got this necklace as a graduation gift and was wondering if anyone had thoughts about it. Its stamped 14k585. I tried rubbing two together and it seems to feel a bit gritty.

If you want to be sure they are genuine pearls, do the tooth test.
Rub them on your teeth. If they feel gritty, they are genuine. If they feel smooth, they are imitation.
Do a comparison test with fake pearls, and you will feel a distinct difference.
The 14k clasp and knotting in between are good signs that they are genuine, as well.

That not-perfectly-round-slightly-roval shape, not perfectly uniform, say real freshwaters to me!
