My girlfriend needs pearl earrings for her mother's birthday (July 31st). She would like to spend under $1000. We went to a jewelry store today and she kinda likes the earrings in the pics below, but she would rather have them in yellow gold.

What do you guys think of the two pairs we found in the store today? The tanner looking pair are $800 and the whiter looking pair are $850.Can you tell by looking if those are good prices? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was looking for basic pearl studs this spring, and the local stores charged twice as much. Have you looked online at all? Check out the trusted vendors list above.

I second that you consider online vendors. In my experience, retail is about 2x - 3x more than online. For the same thing. The only benefit with retail is that you get to see the piece live before buying.

First what type of pearl and size are we looking at in your photos. To me much too expensive!!!. The cards the pearls are attached to is too tattered. You can do better with online vendors here is one with excellent customer service, and return policy.

Are those real or faux? If real, the price will be determined by the type of pearl (Akoya, freshwater, south sea). We'd have a better idea with more information.

For mabe earrings you might want to look here: http://www.americanpearl.com/mb-earrings.html

I wasn't able to find similar earrings in the other style online without knowing what kind of pearl we would be trying to match (but again, to me those look like they could be faux).

I went online to look up the designer. Came up empty. Very odd.

The pearls appear to be button freshwater pearls. Are you sure these are set in white gold?

They're 18k white gold. Thanks so much for the info, guys. The girlfriend is strongly considering a set from Pearl Paradise and a matching pendant. I'll post a link to what she chose once she pushes the button.

She's now considering rose gold also.

Very nice quality pearls she has chosen. When you buy quality you are never sorry later. Rose gold or the others would be lovely.
