Pearl drilling DIY?

I already have the settings made oversea and need the SS and Tahitian pearls to be drilled. Has anyone done it yourself? If yes, may you please share your tool and tips?

I can call around local jewelers to see if they can do that for a small fee but it would be great to do it yourself too.

It is probably not cost effective to do it yourself unless you plan to go into business.
Pearl drills-- good ones-- usually drill from both sides, the two drill bits meeting in the middle. You can google prices.
Drilling generates dust you would not want to inhale, so you would also need a respirator (mask).

For just enlarging the hole on a drilled pearl, you could buy a Dremel tool and drill bits but you would also need something to hold the pearl with so you don't drill your own fingers.
