I am about trade up my one carat princess cut to a 1.5 carat round brilliant! So excited! (I currently have a 3 stone...princess with trillion side stones.)

Should I go with the 3 stone again and have pear side stones with the round, or is a solitaire a better choice? I am afraid I will feel like there is less coverage if i go to a solitaire since I am used to the 3 stone look. I have tried on and love both styles. (also, I have a 2.3 mm shared prong eternity band.)
Help please!

Have you considered a solitaire with French Cuts along the shank, either straight, or graduated?

If you want side stones, I like pears as they are unique. For me though, I like a plain solitaire to let the diamond shine and be the star. In a 3-stone ring, the eye wanders and gets a bit lost and the focus is not first on the center diamond but rather, the focus is on “the ring” and setting. I prefer to spend all the money on a solitaire.

It depends on what you want... a big ring look or a big diamond look. I prefer it to be all about my diamond and let that be the star.

With the right side stone selection, side stones might enhance the overall look of the ring and not fight for attention with the center stone. I used to have a vintage ring with an intricate design that provided a lot of coverage and I then moved to a solitaire. The solitaire was just not enough for me, although they do look beautiful. I ended up changing the design to a three stone with small accent stones. Here is a picture to show the proportions:

I think you should stick with a 3 stone if you are worried about finger coverage. Rings with Pear side stones are lovely IMO.

Edit...or round side stones as in SimoneDi's ring are also lovely!

Both are beautiful choices. Are you planning to wear your eternity with it?

Rounds with pears are a spectacular combo! I would def stick with a 3 stone if that's what you're used to!

If you are used to the coverage of a 3 stone, I think you will miss it if you do a solitaire. The 1.5 carat solitaire will be larger than what you are used to. Maybe put it in an inexpensive temporary setting until you decide if you will miss the coverage?

And I LOVE pear sidestones with rounds.

I love pear sidestone with rounds and oval shaped diamonds. But you really have to get pretty pears as they may be outshined by a really high quality center stone. In other words, make sure that they match in color and quality to the center stone.

If you've followed my journey on here, you will know I've looked at more settings than any guy should ever have to endure, lol.

One I remember had pear side stones. My girl liked swirly stuff, so this falls in that category. I know not everyone loves this stuff, but I liked it. Maybe you will too.
