Now I know pears do not have the same light performance as RB's or other stones. And I bought mine for the shape. Im having it set currently. My problem is that I am worried about my stone. I know there isnt anything I can do about it now, but I just need to know if its nice or not. Im the kind of person that when I get an idea in my head I cant get it out :blackeye: I keep comparing it to all the rounds on here. So I worry myself sick that it isnt good. And its not here now so I cant look at it and talk myself down. Ive even gone so far as to imagine selling it for much less and trying again. But not because I dont like it, I do like it - but because I am worried that I didnt choose right. could I get some opinions on the stone, good or bad, for my own peace of mind. Opinions from pear experts, because the large majority of these are rounds and comparing the two is like "pears and oranges"

If you YOU LIKE IT then you DID CHOOSE RIGHT! ;)

I like your pear! :wavey: I think it's beautiful and it elongates your finger. I am anxious to see your new setting. IMO, settings can be more difficult to choose than the actual diamond!

You must be confident in what you like and what looks good on your finger. I like emerald cuts a great deal . . . on other people! I don't think I would ever be satisfied with an EC for me though. On the other hand (pun intended!), I love a fine marquise on me! Talk about being self conscious on PS! I don't give a care though, because IMO MQs look elegant if set properly!

Yeah it's being set right now in a bezel halo with a plain shank. I really think the new setting will be beautiful- a lot better than the first one. And I know I should be comfortable with my choices it's just need to know if I blew it. :(sad

I dont know what I'm looking to hear. Maybe I'm fishing for compliments. Maybe I just want to know I didn't waist my money. I don't know.

It sure looks like a gorgeous ring to me!!!!

You didn't blow it! Stop beating yourself up. :nono: Please enjoy your diamond. I don't think anyone on PS has the perfect diamond, but there sure are a lot of beautiful ones! :wink2:

Honestly, I think it's beautiful. I love the size on your finger and the coverage is great. I gotta tell you, I have only owned one pear and it was a sapphire set with diamonds in a ring. At the time I wasn't really sold on them and hardly wore it. Mainly because it was to big and sit to high off my finger. So I sold it and I really regret it now. It was a beautiful royal blue and the pear shape was so classy and different. I've been looking for one ever since.

You don't see a lot of pears or EC erings, so when I see, one I really give them a good look. I think your pear is really well cut and sparkles beautifully. I know it's difficult to pick the right ring, with so many options out there but I think you made a great choice.

Wait until you get your new setting and see. It might be just the change you need, to make you love it. Just wait and see and try not to stress about it. We are always our own worst critics. So please try and relax. I'm sure it will all work out :)

Step away from the Pricescope. Really, once you've purchased, you need to STOP SHOPPING. That's what you're doing here, window shopping by looking at what other people are buying. Just stop visiting this site until you have a new project. You'll drive yourself nuts second-guessing.

Nielseel, i think your pear looks beautiful. You didn't mention the specs, but it looks just as beautiful as mine, which is a D colour, VS2 clarity. You're right, pears don't sparkle as much as rounds, but that doesn't mean its not drop dead gorgeous! Like the others, I cannot wait to see the re-set work, especially as you already know I'm interested in having my own pear re-set.

If YOU love it then that's all that matters :)) Wear it with pride :))
And I love mine all the more because I don't know a single other lady who has one, and mine gets drooled over constantly. There's nothing like being a bit different ;)

Best wishes!

I have the same love hate relationship with my pear. I love the size and it does sparkle, but it sparkles in a different way than a RB. I try focusing on being thankful that my wonderful husband let me upgrade to my pear.

Do you know who had the most amazing pear diamond collection? Liz Taylor! She was considered the most beautiful woman in the world and could have chosen any shape stone. Katherine Heigl also has a gorgeous pear. Have you gone thru the Pear lovers thread? It's pinned in the helpful threads archive. Pears are elegent and they Rock!!!
Personally, I go out of my way to be different, and enjoy being unique. I'm sure you will love your beautiful ring when you see it!

I don't go out of my way to be different. But it seems that I always seem to be
I really love the shape and I have looked though that thread and those are beautiful. I just am worried. I know it doesn't hold up to RBs but I'm just worried how it holds up to other pears. I thought I picked well now I'm just not sure. That PP is probably right this sight is playing tricks on my confidence.

I took your advice and went though the other pear threads and I think it fits in nicely with those other pears. So I think that's helping. :)

Your pear is gorgeous. I can't wait to see it in a bezel.

I agree with the comments that PS can change how you feel about your ring or make you have doubts. I had been really proud of my uncerted marquise ER until I spent a few months on PS and it really deflated that pride. But you know what, I chose that shape myself because I have always liked it. And I still love my ring. PS has made me love other fancy shapes now, too, and I am working on collecting some of those for RHRs so I can have my cake and eat it too.

Your pear is truly lovely. And it will face up bigger than a round of the same carat weight. I say focus on what you like about your ring and enjoy it.

Nielseel, your pear is BEAUTIFUL. Please don't worry about it! I have seen pears that are dead and ugly and from the pictures I have seen of yours, it is the opposite of that.

Thank you distracts! :wavey:

I was hoping you'd opst your posts usually make me fee better about her.
Comparing my stone to those pears in the SMTB threads makes me feel better I feel like it isnt a slouch against some of those, its just so hard when compared to AVC or RB's, you know?

This site is a blessing and a curse I think. :saint:

You bought her for a reason. You wanted a pear. Love her! :appl: I think your new setting might make you fall in love again. This one's halo prongs kind of overwhelm the melee in the halo.. and the shank is a bit boxy. Too much size competition from the metal work! I think a bezel would make it look very modern Tiffany. Will it look like those Tiffany bezels?

I think you'll fall in love with her all over again when you get her in her new home. ::)

I can relate, though. I bought my pear because I love the pear's outline shape. I am self conscious about its performance, though. It definitely doesn't dance with an even dispersion like my MRBs or *gasp* even my radiant because of the different sized facets throughout the stone. And I hadn't learned about bow ties when I purchased mine.. so there's that, too.

I know isnt that first setting the worst :blackeye:
Its going to be a ritani plain shank bezel with a halo.

I covet pears. Pears are my first love and I always notice them in the streets because they are stand out beautiful. Stop second guessing and start wearing it so other secret pear admirers can notice it as you glide by them in the streets.

I think it is lovely! I have a thing for pears, too.

One of the first rings on PS that captivated me was a pear. It was owned by Firegoddess. I love pears and getting one is high on my list.

You should have confidence in your choice. It's lovely. Learn to rock it.

:wavey: Thanks all.

You're right I got a pear for a reason, I love the size and the beautiful shape, and I really think Ill love it in the new setting. I think Ive just been projecting some of my disappointment with the original setting onto the stone. Should be done on the 8th, and it wont be soon enough!!

Hi neilseel,

Did you buy that OEC? Are you going to make that into a pendant? BTW you know I love your ring :) Can't wait to see it, when you get it back on the 8th. I hate waiting its torture.

I was considering making a pendant or a small little RHR but I think Im going to focus my attention on my wedding bands first. im thinking a plain WB with a jazz type bezel band between the wedding band and the e-ring. So those things before I move to different jewelry  . Waiting IS the worst. Especially sense my first setting was a bust. Waisted all that time making it just to jet my high hopes dashed :blackeye: Thats ok though. We're on to better settings.

nielseel, I'm so bad I completely disappeared after we traded pics of our little Cavs!

Anyway, I do think that your pear is beautiful!

If you're anything like me, I've owned a super ideal round that was 1.27 set in a pendant and when it came time to choose an e-ring, I dragged my feet for months. My FI and I kept looking at rounds (its the shape he liked best) and we almost pulled the trigger a few times. When it came down to it, something always stopped me....until we tried on all the different shapes in the carat range I was looking for. When I tried on the pear shape, I knew there was no other shape out there for me.

I think that you chose a pear shape because you loved the shape and being different, but I think what's totally dampening your mood and thoughts about it, is the first setting that was not made to your expectations. Fwiw, I think your pear is totally gorgeous, it looks to be sparkly with no huge bowtie.

Your band idea sounds wonderful ;) I am definitely with you when it comes to finishing one project, before starting another. I just notice you got it and wanted to ask. I hope and pray your new setting is all you want it to be. So you can be happy with your ring and put that old setting behind you :)

Pears can definitely get a bad rap. When I first got mine, my friend said "That's very nice. I want a diamond just like that one day...except mine will be sparkly"!! :angryfire: It did make me upset and I called my husband wanting to take it back and get another diamond until he talked me down. Now I love my pretty pear...very elegant.

Your particular pear is really lovely and you can wear it proudly. I hope you love your new setting. It can make a big difference. I first had my pear in between blue sapphires and it was darkening the diamond really badly and exaggerating its slight bow-tie. Once I put in its current setting, it was a whole different effect

I think it's gorgeous! I hardly ever see pears. Don't let others influence your thoughts. :))

Well, I happen to adore your pear nielseel! I think it's sparkly, bright and I love the faceting - I can't wait to see it in the new setting!
