pear halo - how small can you go?

Wow - Smith, that's fabulous coverage for a 1/2 ct pear on a small finger!! Looks great!

The DBL is shown on a size 6, so imagine if Kmystery has tiny fingers like yours, it would look HUGE!!

And lastly the pendant balanced on a half eternity totalling about a quarter of a carat, so very small stones. There are 11 stones and I think they are about 2 points each but am not sure - bought this ring ages ago.

Hi

Thank you everyone for your input.

I didn't manage to contact DBL today, but I definitely will as I do feel really drawn to the one I linked above. My one worry - the stone seems very shallow (although it does look nice and sparkly).

Niel - I did contact Ritani and they said that the halo could fit a pear diamond, so this is definitely on the list to show my husband as well.

I was wondering though, the diamond will be D (maybe E) but the Ritani melee is G/H. Would this be an issue with a D center stone? They did provide a custom quote for EF melee, which was an additional US$1k!

Thanks x

No reason to pay to change the melee! You won't see a difference. They'll just look like little white sparkles. You'll be fine.

OK, I've just dug out the paperwork for the pendant, and the center stone is actually only 0.46 with a halo of 24 stones totalling 0.21 carats. It doesn't say anything about the colour of the halo stones but I do remember from the store that they are a lower colour than the centre stone, which was sold to me as F Si1, even though it's an uncerted stone. I think the halo is G-H. I don't think you can see a colour difference here, and most people can't tell the difference between a D and an F, so the ring would likely look somewhat similar to this. Between D and F it's not really so much a matter of seeing any yellow, but just that the D tends to have some extra-cold iciness to it. So you don't see a colour difference, per se. I have three D diamonds and that's the best way to describe it. Hope that helps! :wavey:

ETA: I know, I'll photograph my F pear next to my D round pendant and you'll be able to see that there isn't really a discernible difference. (You might be asking yourself why I ever bought D diamonds then. Answer is because they happened to be the most inexpensive ones in the inventories - that met my cut specs - at the time I wanted to buy.)

AGS-certified D stone on the right, and uncerted sold-to-me as-F centre stone on the left with G-H halo.

Thanks Enerchi! I have actually considered turning this pendant into a ring, but I think I'll leave it how it is because I love a good diamond necklace!

The DBL is hand-forged whereas this is only cast, and the DBL is better quality all round (this pendant was well under $1500) so if the OP gets the DBL ring, it will probably look miles better than the pendant as well! :appl:

Hi

To answer some queries - my ring size is UK J, but I prefer j 1/2 as I like rings a bit loose. I think that the 0.5ct pear with a halo is going to give great coverage - thanks so much for the pictures, it really helps.

Thanks for that Niel, that is what I thought would be the response. I just wanted to ask, as I am quite colour sensitive (I have a beautiful three stone ring (when I learn how to photograph properly, I will add to the site) which are all G, VS2 but I can definitely see some colour in them. However, with such small stones, I wondered if that would be the same situation.

I am so excited, now to persuade my hubby. He is very happy to buy me jewellery (he is having a custom made guitar - they cost diamonds :twirl: ) but is nervous about doing it online. However, local shops do not seem to have anything quite as special for such comparatively good prices. I have tried on channel set pears and pears on plain bands and although lovely, I need more sparkle (this is an anniversary present and will not be worn every day - leads to another question, white gold or platinum, or palladium??).

Thank you for the photo of the diamonds, I do like an icey look :-) but agree, difference is not obvious

I do really like the DBL ring, I just need to talk to David as I am concerned about the depth

Thanks again, this forum is brilliant!

KMystery - he's in the office from 1- 8. Not sure what time it is in England right now, but the toll free # & a chat, and then you could dream happy dreams tonight!! Go ahead, make the call.... hey, they don't call me "The Enabler" for nothin'!! tee hee!

Just sayin'.... ;))

Oh good! I hope your hubby goes for it.

I'm partial to the ritani stone, but I like the dbl setting.

A half carat pear is no problem with a halo. I know that ArtCarved has one that goes from half carat to two carat.

thanks Enrichi - have just started an email conversation with DBL now to get some more information.

apologies, Enerchi is what I meant to type!

 No problem!! MayK calls me "Energy"!!! I knew what you meant!!

but - YAY!! I'm excited for you - I hope it pans out and this is the ring for you! Its so gorgeous --- a D!!! How awesome is *that*?!? Yippee!!
Hopefully it will be sized and shipped and we'll be reading your SMTB thread in no time! Good luck!

Hi

I showed my hubby the pictures of the rings. He really likes pear stones but he thought that the halo looks "old fashioned".

I told him i thought it was classic :-)

I think if it had no halo, with the carat size I am looking for, it might look a bit lost. I know that my fingers are not that big, bit I wanted a bit of bling and thought that the halo would do that.

He said that he would be happy with whatever i did choose. I'm still loving the rings, but would prefer to get something my hubby loved too. I hadn't had a chance to show him before last night as he has been away. I thought as i know he liked pears, it would be an issue

Hmmmm.......

Well let's see what size solitaire you can get with that budget :))

Niel, you do make me smile :-)
Hubby prefers channel set (like the ones i have tried on locally - if I'm honest, I think that is more of the issue, local and tied on vs online and without trying on).
I reckon I might be able to push 0.6ct with the budget
I am not prepared to give up on the other one just yet though - ways and means of changing minds :-)

I did just a quick search on ritani and I think with a little luck you could find about a 1ct in a plain solitaire for your budget.

Or conversely, if you guys end up compromising, remember that nice James Allen pear? They might have some setting you guys can both agree on! And that faces up closer to a 1ct anyways

Hey kmystery!

I think Niel's suggestion would give you a lot more finger coverage and still get what you want! I would most definitely put it on hold, before someone snatches it up!! This is a nice sized pear (much larger than a 0.5 ct). Good Luck! :))

really, 1ct in my budget, I didn't think that was an option, off on to the ritani website now and to look at the James Allen one again!

Another cool thing about the James Allen stone is that it has medium blue fluorescence! :appl:

as i am quite a newbie at this, what does medium blue fluorescence mean in terms of the look of the diamond? Sorry if a basic question!

You'd probably have to ask someone to find you a good one, because most of their pears don't have pics on ritani... but they had SI stones in the colorless range....you'd probably get a solitaire with it, but shoot its worth it if you consider changing the setting down the road. Once your hubby is on the halo bandwagon :Up_to_something:

Blue fluor makes a stone look whiter inUV rays. Outdoors, things like that. Just make sure and ask them there's no negative effects. And it'll be icy white
