Thinking of purchasing this pear but only issue is the depth? Too much?

1.06 ct Pear
9.1 x 5.6 x 3.7
66% Table Depth
SI2 (inclusions invisible to naked eye and off to side)
D
Good Symmetry
Very Good Polish
No Fluor
GIA certified

Do you think the dimensions are taking away from how big the stone looks?

Hello! Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but there should be one percentage for table and one percentage for depth. Do you mean that the depth is 66%? Or is that the table?

Here is a link to the Atlas chart for pears, which might be helpful to you.

http://www.gemappraisers.com/

Go to the link on the left for cut grade charts and rules, then choose "pear" from the drop down menu.

Here is the table referred to above...can''t tell by what you''ve written if it''s the table or the depth - there''s a number missing!

From the measurements it looks top heavy, this is one you need to see before you buy.

1 carat pear should measure 8x6 mm, I agree there are exceptions to the rule so thats why I said you need to see the diamond and see if the bow tie is obvious.

Sorry, depth is 66%

We like the elongated pear shaped diamond. 9.1 x 5.6 x 3.7 is the l x w x h ( 1.63:1 ratio according to gemappraisers.com). Was wondering if the pear has too much height for that cut or if it is ok. Just worried about the diamond having too much weight on the bottom which would make the diamond look smaller than it actually is.

Fancy shapes are difficult to judge by number alone. Have you seen this stone in person? Although the stone is slightly deep, as you can see from the table posted by FireGoddess, I would not throw this one out based on that alone. If the shape is pleasing to your eye (1.63:1--very nice IMO), the bow-tie is not predominant, no visible inclusions, and the price is right, this could be a great stone! Do you know what the table size is?

Ditto to what DL said - you definitely need to see the stone in person - you can''t judge a fancy just by its numbers!!!

Are you sure Iceman? According to the chart I looked at a one carat diamond should measure 8x5 not 8x6. An 8x6 pear would only have about a 1.33 ratio and would be pretty fat. A 1.5 carat pear shaped diamond is closer to 9x6 so it seems like the diamond is measuring out big for a 1.06 ct.

I''m with the others though, fancy cuts are really hard to judge based just on the numbers.

Pearcrazy: What do you mean when you see "measuring out big"??

The stone measurements seem to indicate that the way the stone is cut, it is spreadier, or looks bigger, than 1.06 ct. That''s what I understood pearcrazy to mean.

Thanks FireGoddess, that''s exactly what I meant. The diamond will look larger than its carat weight.
