Pear Diamond Question

I recently purchased my wife a 2 carat pear diamond G color SI2 Good Symmetry, Good Polish. Under some lighting conditions (fluorescent in particular) the ring is absolutely gorgeous and shines like the 4th of July Fireworks. Under other lighting conditons that ring is deader than a doornail.
Can anyone provide me with some feedback on my dilemma?

You should ask the mods to move this to Rocky Talky. I will ask them to move it for you, as you will get the best advice there. Good luck.

as in, static - just a white shape - in diffused office lighting, by any chance? If so.. that's normal

I''m not an expert on diamonds by any means, but it sounds like you''ve got a diamond with a bit of fluorescence in it.

That can be a good or bad thing, depending on who you speak to and what you''re preference is.

But, given you say you love it under fluorescent light, there should be nothing to worry about. Just show it off whenever you''re in UV light!

Hi ron,

Its hard to tell what you are seeing, it is normal for diamonds to lose some steam away from bright lights but they still need to show some signs of life so to speak....It could be the cut of the stone thats responsible, also it is possible the stone needs a jolly good cleaning!! Has it been cleaned recently?

A bit more info would be helpful, what is the strength of the fluorescence, which lab graded the stone and what are the grade making inclusions for the SI2 clarity grade such as feathers, clouds etc?
