Hi Everyone,
I am a long time visitor but first time poster, this site is incredibly informative and fun! I am in need of some advice and will try to make a long story short. My husband's cousin is a talented diamond cutter and jeweler based in NYC. My engagement ring was custom made and I am beyond obsessed and in love 10 years later. In all that time, a prong needed to be replaced but there have been no other issues. My wedding band is a different story. I had been eyeing my wedding band since I was a teenager, and my cousin warned me that it was a delicate setting. The ring is a 3 row pave band, 5 mm band. For the first 4 years, I was teaching and wore my rings daily and had no issues. I changed careers (I'm a chef now) and no longer wear my rings everyday, however in the last year, the same stone has fallen out of my wedding band 3 times. My cousin has replaced it with no problem, I have brought him so many new clients my rings are advertisements, LOL! The same stone fell out again and I feel terrible asking him to replace it when I know it will come out in time. Here is where I need your help and expertise. The stone is in the center row dead center of the ring, it is usually under the halo of my engagement ring, which is what I am guessing causes the damage. Is it possible to fill it in with a bead of metal instead of a stone? I have attached a picture and you can barely see where the stone is missing, which is why I thought the bead of metal would be a fix. Any and all ideas are welcome!rings2.JPG

I'd ask your cousin, but if your theory is correct, it is the prong height relative to the head of your ering that are the issue. So, you can see if the stone can be replaced with a less deep/spready stone, use a small enough stone to reduce the depth, or use a gemstone. You could use a rose-cut (they are very not deep) and that would retain a colorless stone. But, you should also be able to fill in with metal. You could use true micro-pave. He could use a cluster of small melee to give the look of a stone, but that reduces the height.

He'll need to determine how much headroom is needed on the band to clear the head of the ering to know which options really suit available.

Use a 1-2mm spacer band
