Looking at a pave halo setting. Besides look, what is the difference? Is either recommended over the other?

Hey Jcm412...

I don't know that one is recommended over the other, necessarily... A prong set stone may allow more light to pass through the stone, esp if set a little higher. A bezel will provide more protection to the girdle and make the stone more secure. I think it just depends on the style of setting. A bezel tends to have a more modern feel, and prongs go either way. Which one is more visually appealing to you or your GF?

Just my opinion:
A bezeled halo breaks the look a little so that I can see the diamond and halo as 2 separate components yet as a single harmonious unit. A pronged halo looks more like a continuous diamond sparkle from afar.

Honestly, I think I am more picky than she is. I like the look of the the non bezel setting from above. However, I hate how high the center stone sits and the side profile. I like how the stone sits more flush with a bezeled setting, but not crazy about the bezel around the stone.

You think I will get less sparkle of the center stone with a bezeled setting?

There are settings and then there are settings. Some people like the center stone to sit high in the halo and some like it flush. I've seen some lower set prong halo settings and you probably will prefer this. The sparkle will only be affected if the stone isn't well cut.

is there any way to get her preference out of her? Like look at a few rings (some bezel, some non-bezel) and see her reaction?

Can you show a picture. As Chrono said there are pave halos and then there are PAVE HALOS!

I notice at some of the mall stores they have the diamonds sit up much higher on the halo to make the center look larger. I'm not a fan of it at all. i think the best thing about the halo is the subtle lines it has. Do you have a link to the exact setting or something like it?

UGH!! I loathe those! ...they give halos a bad name. Seriously. ::)

No, I don't have any particulars in mind. Just trying to get the facts. Any recommendations on where to look for a good prong pave halo?
