Not sure if this should be in RT or SMTR but since I have nothing to "show" I am posting the thread here.

I know everyone has varied experiences and preferences so looking for opinions on who to contact (when time comes) for a custom setting with pave, engraving and migrain. LM and ERD are at the top of my list (they are both located about an hr away). Any other recs?

I have LOTS of thoughts and ideas but need to get them organized before sharing. I do not have the stone yet but it will be a GOG AVC.

Thanks in advance!

where are you located --roughly? quest jewelers in Northern VA are fabulous. Mctiegue and McClelland in Massachusetts are as good as LM.

Thanks for the reply. I am located in NY (about an hr distance from ERD and LM).

McTiegue and McClelland are as top notch as you will find. They do amazing custom work. They have an office in NYC and will meet you by appointment.

Great. Thanks for the rec. Plan on taking a trip to the city this week or next and will make sure to take a gander.

hi Collee

i got my setting custom made by GOG and it has milgrain and pave. i asked for 4 prong instead of shared prongs for the pave since i like the look of that better. i attached a picture of the side profile of my ring so you can see an example of their work.

Ooohh, I like! Thanks for sharing. I have been working with Jon (upgrade) and Marie (settings) but didn't ask about custom settings. Who did you work with?

Still sorting out the details by my ideas are to combine the head style (modified) of this LM with the shank of this Sheldon Speyer. Since GOG has the Sheldon in stock perhaps they are the best to contact in re: to if this combo is feasible and estimated cost.

LM head (totally scaled down of course)

I know this GORGEOUS setting was a GOG custom so perhaps this could be combined with my beloved Sheldon shank. As I recall though, the quote received by inquiring PSers was a good deal higher than my (3k~) budget.

Greenlake Jewelers does the best engraving (in my opinion) and second best millgrain bar none. Pave I''d say Leon, and for piercing and millgrain (and closest thing to a real antique setting) Van Craeynest. Van Craeynest pretty much only does variations on their own catalogue repertoire as far as I know, and their work is extremely pricey even for high quality custom. So for a modern setting I''d probably go with GLJ. Their work is freaking amazing and is fairly reasonably priced for their quality. I had them engrave one of my existing settings and the result was remarkable. Really premium quality work. Check out their website at http://www.greenlakejewelry.com. It''s even better in person.

hi Collee

i worked with Marie for my setting. definitely ask her if they can do some custom work on the sheldon speyer ring or if they can replicate it with the head style you want. it was a lot easier for me to get the stone and the setting from GOG, i didn''t have to worry about shipping loose stones or insurance while the stone was being set.

good luck with your search! can''t wait to see the final product
