My SO and I are having a hard time getting a stone here in FL for this ring mount we bought from california. We bought a stone earlier and it didnt fit (online) so we sent it back.

So far the mount seller said it CAN fit a round stone 6mm. Someone advised that getting a cushion stone will be more expensive when he takes it to the gold smith.

Can someone please help ? thanks I would like to find a 6mm parti sapphire from a good seller

I know it's too late now, but the challenges you are facing now is because you bought the setting first, then looked for the stone. Finding the right stone is difficult enough but now you've added another challenge by adding mm size constraints, including shape and depth.

A round is actually going to be more expensive than a cushion and should cost about the same to set.

What's your budget?
What colour are you looking for (apart from knowing that you want a parti).

What happened was that we bought the stone and the setting from different sellers. They said it would fit. And now it didn't so we sent back the stone and its too late to resend the mount for a refund. Our budget is about $200 to $600 for a blue/green sapphire either montana or Australian. we were told round will be cheaper to mount because the edges are rounded off.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. Shop for the stone first, make sure you love it, then shop for the setting. Doing 2 at the same time is risky as you've noted. I would say it's not cheaper to mount a round but easier for a lesser skilled bench. The benches I frequent do not charge more or less based on the shape.

Was that stone too small?
If so, I like the green cushion from finewater

this is the stone that we bought and didnt fit :(

I agree that the stone will be much too small for the setting. You have to take the rounded "shoulders" into consideration. It is also rather poorly cut for a precision cut stone.

I don't know whether you know this or not, but Montana sapphires shift a lot so it will look blue green under one light condition, then blue in another, then gray in another and so forth. It looks blue green in the one picture but it will not look like that all the time. If you are looking for a stone that stays blue green all the time, then a Montana isn't the right stone for you.

As mentioned, most Montanas will be very shifty. Is there a reason it has to be a Montana sapphire?

Well no, honestly I would love a parti sapphire from australia but I noticed montanas can get blue/green as well.

I'm going to expand the comment about shifting a bit further.............not sure you realize that all colored stones will have their colors move a bit depending on the lighting. So, yes Montana's are shifty, but I wouldn't count them out without seeing one in hand, such as the one posted from Dan Stair. The shifting can be like having different personality's....which I happen to like. If you have the setting you can gently set it in the mount and see how it looks........take great care if this is what you choose to do. Any stone damaged will not be returnable to the vendor.

It's not a round, but thought this one might interest you (it's a bit dark, and not a round, but thought I'd throw it out there):

That said, I'm kind of wondering about color - do you want something teal or greenish-blue throughout, or something with distinct areas of different colors?

hey thanks! I actually was looking at the one but it looks kind of dark.

Im going to attach a picture to see if you can see what I would like,

If you are not hard on your rings, a tourmaline is going to be a good alternative but I don't know if you are careful with your hands. This probably has more green than blue, but it's round, might fit and within budget.

I don't work with anything harsh , I have an office job so I would deff check this one out. I messaged them to send real life photos. The tourmalines I've been looking at are really funny looking. The one that was too small for the ring was a perfect color.

I am not referring to chemicals but whether you tend to move your hands a lot or be a bit clumsy with your hands. There are Pricescopers with office jobs that have whacked their rings against file drawers and damaged the stone.
