I''ve been having quite a frustrating experience with my engagement ring! Of course, the actual engagement was wonderful, but I''m getting tired of things going wrong with the ring!!!

I suppose I should start where it all began. After my FH and I got engaged (and gazing at my lovely ring), I noticed that the diamond was set a bit crooked in the prongs. So I emailed the company (Danforth Diamond) that FH purchased it from and they offered to repair it. I also requested that it be sized smaller (from a 5 1/2--> 5 3/4) because it was a bit loose on my finger. When I got it back, the stone setting looked great, but the band was really crooked and uneven after the sizing. Frustrated, I contacted them once again, and they offered to replace the band. I accepted, and was satisfied upon receiving it...until now, about three weeks later...

It has begun to turn a slight shade of yellow. I have cleaned it with a toothbrush and cleaner, and it still has this appearance. I checked to make sure they didn''t confuse the type of jewelry metal that my ring was made of when they replaced it, and it read PD. I know Danforth uses 950 pd that they receive from Harmony metals. Any idea why this is turning yellow?

I don''t know why is turing yellow...although i would like to know why also. I just purchased a scott kay palladium ring. does this happen to all Palladium?

It hasn''t happened to my palladium and there''s no reason palladium should turn yellow, it isn''t a yellow metal...

My first thought is that maybe they used palladium white gold instead of palladium...but that would be a long shot if it''s stamped palladium.

Hopefully one of the experts will chime in here...

Exactly what I was thinking as well. I hope someone can clarify for us.

I agree. I''ve tried doing searches for yellowing pd and came up with nothing. And the white gold/palladium mixture came to mind as well, but I know that they use 950 pd, so that couldn''t be the problem.

Hmmmm...

I can''t think of any reason why a Pd 950 would turn yellow either, Palladium is a whiteish metal. As Neakfreak suggested maybe they used the wrong stamp on the ring and it''s gold with Pd used as the whitening alloy?? I''d take it to a trusted jeweler and have them test the metal. On the bright side... if it is gold and you paid the Pd price, you got a heck of a deal!!

I have a ring that is 14K white gold with Palladium as the alloy, and it is bright white without the need for rhodium plating, so I doubt that''s a possibility.

How weird. Ask an appraiser maybe? Or if you know another jeweler/bench well and would trust their opinion, ask them?

It''s certainly a possibility...there are many combinations of gold to palladium and gold is still gold even when mixed with palladium. Just because yours doesn''t need to be plated doesn''t mean another one wouldn''t.

Best to take it to a jeweler to test the metal. They should be able to eliminate or confirm the possibility that it''s WG w/ palladium pretty quicky.

Where exactly is it turning yellow? Is it the whole ring or is it a small section where maybe it had been soldered? I am not sure why it would be yellowing...
