I''ve been doing a lot of research into palladium (Pd) settings, and I''ve stumbled across the source of Danforth Diamond''s settings. They are all settings made by Hoover & Strong: http://www.hooverandstrong.com/category/Bridal+Jewelry/

Danforth and Union Diamond seem to be the big sites with considerable Pd selection, and Danforth gave me the most warm fuzzies, and in the course of my research I found their supplier, so I thought PS users in the market for a Pd setting would be interested. Danforth uses the stock photos that Hooever & Strong provides on their webpage, and they just add a simulated diamond image that you can grow/shrink to get a feel for how a small or large stone will look in the setting.

I''m a metallurgical engineer at a steel mill which uses almost exclusively scrap metal, and Pd has me intrigued for several reasons.

I don''t know anything about Hoover & Strong other than that they''ve been around for a long time, but they have a few things going for them. One is "Harmony" recycled metals, which is kind of neat if you''re eco-conscious. It also clues one in to the fact that H&S is actually quite deeply involved in their own metallurgy. They actually purchase scrap precious alloy and refine and re-cast it to use in their jewelry products, as well as their raw materials such as casting grain for those interested in casting their own jewelry.

Another thing is their trademarked TruPd palladium alloy. I was actually doing some fundamental metals research into jewelry alloys for another company when this material was new, and it seemed like a very big step for Pd jewelry. One of the main limitations has been its difficulties with casting - gas bubbles form in the melting process and end up as porous metal in the final casting, and the material sometimes would not flow into intricate shapes well). TruPd makes casting easier than the Pd-Ru alloy that used to be common, and has similar wear resistance to platinum. For these reasons, it seems to me that a H&S setting should be a very durable product (well-formed castings and good wear resistance).

Pd settings seem to go for a 30-75% discount to identical settings in Pt, depending on who''s selling.

At this point I''m very close to buying a stone from James Allen and I''m looking for a way to get a palladium setting from them if possible.

Thanks for reading! I''m new and people have been helping me out on a stone question, so I thought I would share some of my information and expertise for anybody interested in Pd and one of the big sellers of Pd mounts on the intarwebs.
