palladium for gemstone settings?

i''ve seen this discussed quite a bit for diamonds, but not for gemstones. maybe i''m just not finding the thread, but with the price of gold, is this worth considering if you want a white metal? are there certain stones that are too soft to set with it for some reason?

There''s no reason why any gemstone can''t be set in palladium if you wish. The only concern with softness of the gemstone is if you want to wear it in a ring.

the softness is a general issue for rings, though, as opposed to an issue specific to what metal is used, right?
