Owning multiple diamonds

Chiming in again to say that I don't keep my family informed of my jewelry changes, except for my cousin (like a sister) who also has a bling addiction.

So, yeah, I'm somewhat in the closet locally as well... best not to be showy and draw attention to yourself...

Very true. When I say everyone around me I mean my close cousin and a girlfriend of mine. My mom and my husband of course knows. I am in a way in the closet of course with this bling addiction and it's somehow seems shallow if I talk about it with anyone else... of course here, I know you understand that it's the shiny sparkle that we love... and the gen cut above all else.

*gem cut. Sorry for all the typos. It is late here so my eyes are not seeing well.

Junebug, thank you for a thoughtful reply. I actually have considered other shapes... I tried on the oval but it did not look good on my short fingers. I actually also have an EC as well (again, very embarrassing to admit I have a bling addiction and does not help that this site is full of people with bling passion). And my husband and mom and everyone around me do feel that another round would be similar to my round in a halo I already have but I just love round. I think it is the best shape for light performance and also fits my finger. Lots of dilemma. But someone mentioned today that the gia report on the K color looks odd and now i need to look into this. The reason I was drawn to the K was at 9.8mm, it would give me that max coverage for a round I am looking for but I want to make sure that I am going for the best cut within budget and color.... I think I'll have to se once I have it in my possession. The showroom it's hard to determine true color.

Diamondlove, I totally get it! I love the look of a large round solitaire on the hand too. There's something very glamorous about it. And how great to have both a halo and a solitaire, the best of both worlds! And you can't beat a round for sparkle, that's for sure.

I saw your thread about the 2 diamonds you're considering…good idea to make sure you have the right report. Going by the pic you posted, the K looks beautiful to my eye. I don't see any color difference in that pic between the 2. And the size!!! You'll probably get different opinions with regard to color so at the end of the day you just have to trust your eyes and figure out what you're comfortable with. It's great that you have the opportunity to see the diamonds side by side, that's a big help.

I'm pretty much with junebug and all who said it's a hobby and a luxury. It's for extra money after all the necessary saving is done and one is mostly debt free except maybe a mortgage. I was married a long time before my upgrades started. Last child has one more year of college and my husband is about to retire a few years early. We saved and now can spend money on pleasures. Obviously jewelry is mine!

I have the AVR ring and an antique asscher ring. Both are over 2 cts and I sincerely do not need another, but I still kind of want an AVC. I am trying to resist, though! I wear the same basic pieces on a daily basis and only wear the asscher ring and extra jewelry on special occasions. I have a few right hand rings but rarely wear them! I have 2 daughters and two little granddaughters, so I am saving my best things for them and have gotten rid of other things I don't care about over the years. I kind of want to transition over to buying my daughters some nice classic pieces they can wear in the near future like studs and pendant.

I should add that I never show local friends my new jewelry and I am usually wear my basic pieces around them. Same with family except I do have one sister who seems interested in seeing my new things!
DS, you need that avc that just went on preloved. Please....

Ok I know I said I am a one ring girl but once I get my oec into its new home I am going to look at cushions. I would so love a CAC in a halo... that could "turn" me!! :lol-2: And I would like it in a H or I. Omg what are you doing to me diamondlove!? Must stop!!

If its a modern cut K go and see it and see if the colour bothers you, if it does, old cut diamonds are more forgiving if you are colour sensitive, I think in that colour range.

For me, jewellery is like clothes and accessories - one is never enough!

I don't really need anymore jewellery, however, if I can afford it, then why not?

DK :))

I always feel like I'm eavesdropping when I chime in, lol. If you don't wear your bling around family or friends, where do you wear it? Just to outings with your husband or shopping alone? I guess I can't think of many places I go without seeing family or friends.

Well, I meant extended family, certainly not immediate family! My family and my husband's family live in another state. So when we see them it is a holiday, birthday, or something like that, and I just don't wear a lot at one time.

I don't wear things like diamond bracelets and right hand rings unless I am dressing up for a wedding or some type of party, etc. Studs and wedding set, tiny diamond cross pendant (and watch sometimes) are what I generally wear daily.

I see. I tend to only buy things that I can wear daily. I would be hesitant to buy cocktail rings and such just because I would probably want to wear them all the time. And would look crazy!

Not a thing wrong with that, either! I just wasn't ever in a job where I had to dress up, so I didn't wear a lot of jewelry. Plus, I mostly taught in lower socio-economic schools and didn't feel it was the appropriate place.

LLJsmom, this is what happens when you have an inner bling passion and then you found a safe forum to talk things through and people enable. But I just love to see and share this hidden passion. I am
So glad my daughter seems to appreciate my stuff so I can pass it down to her some day. What is a CAC? I love halos. I was afraid it was a trend but I don't care, I love the look.

I enjoyed this thread. Like everyone else, I know that diamonds are not a good investment. Before I ever bought one my banker husband had given me an article to read called, "Have You Ever Tried To Sell A Diamond?" (or something like that). On the other hand, they are certainly better investments than cars or perfume, which I also buy. (I do not buy luxury cars; I just mean that I buy cars to drive. In actuality, I am on my fourth Jeep.) I also buy clothing and handbags. All four of these items become worn and lose value, unlike diamonds, which lose value only because they have been "driven out of the lot" like a new car. They are not worn down. At least mine never are; I wear them very gently.

I do not, currently, wear any jewelry unless I go to a party (which is rare). Sometimes I wish I just had one large solitaire and had "wasted" my money on so many pieces. But I am not wearing my solitaire, either! So I usually don't worry very much about any of this. I am pretty happy with life and have rediscovered studying languages on the computer!

I have a small personal collection of round brilliants (6) all over one carat, non are mounted, I don't wear jewlery, I really don't have any interest in jewelry, they're all just stored in the parcel paper they came in. I think I'm VERY selective, when I see something that looks like a great deal in my price range I buy it. I'm not basing my retirement on it, I know I probably would not be able to recover my cost of the stones but I really don't care. It seems like prices are down a little, I hope to buy one or two a year if I see something that piques my interest. If I don't, then I won't.

If you love it, you love it!

So I recently joined the multiple e-ring club not on purpose but it just sort of happened....because like you said diamonds aren't a great investment! When I started to search for my new upgrade I tried selling my OEC but I wasn't going to get very close to what we had originally spent on it. So I decided to keep it. My daughter LOVES it so one day I'm sure it will be hers.

So I have asked the vendor and for the K, because the inclusion is actually part of the twinning wisp, the report shows just the twining wisps since there are lots of those.... I love the size of the K but in the end, in my mind, I could not get passed the K color. Also, in the showroom, born stone looks similar in terms of color but I feel that is deceiving because J is a higher color and has strong flourescence and seems slightly better cut so all in, it would appear whiter in other situations. Plus it's slightly cheaper than the K. I could only chose 1 to have it shipped so in the end, I selected the J. I hope when I get it, it's a good choice. Does anyone have any picture of a 9.5mm solitaire for me to see? Do you think there's a large difference between the 9.5 and 9.8mm? Decisions decisions. I feel rediculous to even be thinking about it this much.

I am a practical gal so I can really relate to your feelings and post. As the other ladies mentioned, it is a luxury purchase and most items in this category can't really be justified as investments. I think of a ring as something that brings me joy and it is even more special when dh is excited to look with me and have a physical representation of what our love/marriage represents. Would perhaps saving your second ring for a but anniversary date help you get over the hump? I understand wanting to get a ring that looks different. My e ring is platinum but I plan for our 10 year anniversary to be good, which I was surprised I liked. Perhaps a very different setting would be exciting to you and look different enough if you want to stay with the same diamond cut? Good luck and keep us posted!

Not a thing wrong with that, either! I just wasn't ever in a job where I had to dress up, so I didn't wear a lot of jewelry. Plus, I mostly taught in lower socio-economic schools and didn't feel it was the appropriate place.
