Hi There, I am new to this forum but wanted to reach out for a second opinion.

I am buying from a reputable dealer, but noticed a large feather on an oval diamond. It is a VS2 1.74ct.

I have attached the GIA and a small video.(click here)

The dealer has told me that this is of no concern, and is very common / causes no structural issue to the diamond. I have read conflicting opinions online, but would greatly appreciate any input.

Hello and welcome to the forum! You can usually be confident that a VS1-2 diamond will be eye clean (though there are exceptions). So that would be my main concern, that it's eye clean and there are no cloud issues. As far as the feather in question posing a structural issue, I highly doubt it. Please attach or embed a copy of the GIA report. We'd need to see it (not just the pavilion plot) to better judge the clarity. Also, the video cuts off right at the moment we would see that pavilion feather through the crown. So it's difficult to judge at the moment!

Thank you so much for your time and helping, that is greatly appreciated.

I’m having a little trouble seeing it in the updated video…but being a VS2 diamond, I think you’d need a 10x loupe to really get a good look at the inclusion. VS2 stone inclusions aren’t something that’s typically apparent to the naked eye when you’re wearing the stone.

So far I’m not seeing anything that tells me there is something structurally wrong with the stone, but I’ll let the others chime in!

You can see the feathers/naturals on the bottom(south) end of the stone in the video (on the pavilion side). I usually go with the
theory at a VS2 the stone should be fine as far as durability and I see no reason to feel any different about this stone.

Can you get an ASET image for the stone?

Thank you for the updated report and vid! I agree with @JSG2185 and @tyty333. I have zero issues with that inclusion being present in a VS2 stone. I do not believe it will be eye visible through the crown in person and I do not believe it poses any risk of future damage. My only slight concern would be the comment that "additional clouds are not shown," as I despise even the slightest bit of haze. But, again, being a VS2 with no fluorescence, I think the possibility of apparent cloudiness is highly unlikely. In all honestly, VS is my preferred clarity grade across the board... eye clean at a great value. :) I also usually opt for F color... still considered "colorless" at a great value. But I certainly don't have a problem with a snow white D color. :mrgreen2: The table and depth percentages are within the "ideal range" for oval cuts, so that's good (though I would like to have seen "excellent" symmetry.) Tyty333 inquired about ASET images. This is important, of course, but even more so with a fancy cut such as oval (because they're prone to varying degrees of the dreaded bow tie effect). Good luck! This appears to be a lovely diamond!!

Thank you @Autumn in New England @JSG2185 and @tyty333 - you have all been greatly helpful and I really appreciate this.

May I also thank you for helping a newbie, some forums often get angry when new people ask questions (which no doubt have been asked before in some variation) but do not often answer a specific concern. You have all been super helpful!

I've gone ahead with my purchase; the diamond just had so much energy when I saw it in person!

I do hope you'll check back in once you receive the stone (and have it set)! Big congrats and enjoy!!
